Hey, I was just wondering if any of you had interesting stories of people you know comiting insurance fraud. I don't really care if it was auto or home or whatever. You don't have to name names.
The one that I found the most shocking is the tale of my friend's sister. She was driving around one day when another car veered toward her causing her panic and drive off the road hitting the curb. She wasn't hurt, but hired an injury lawyer to represent her. They ended up settling with the insurance company of the other driver after doing the whole fake doctor, rehab thing.
Settlement: ~$40K (before legal fees I think)
She ended up buying some implants and put a the rest down on an S2000. What a joke.
I also went to school in with a guy who would get into little fender benders on purpose. You know when you're driving and someone might change lanes toward you? Instead of avoiding the accident, he'd let them hit him. The first time he landed $7k. After that, he did the same sort of thing two more times, since it was so lucrative. I'm waiting for the day he dies trying to get into an accident, LOL.
