rx8 over rated?

Do u guys think that rx8 is over rated?

i think it's underated. most of the guys knock it for being slow in a straight line. i like it because there is nothing for the price that handles as good... but I've always been a handling guy rather than a dyno/drag guy.

I think it gets a lot of flak for a rotary. Although, it has made significant development in emissions and fuel economy. Which has changed alot from the previous rx-7 but at a sacrfice. Although i have heard that they are trying to bring back the rx-7 .

theres some rumor that the ecu restricts power output when all 4 wheels arent spinning (like on a dyno)

Yeah, I heard that too. Apparently the car is nearly impossible to dyno properly. That is one reason why there has been so much controversy over power numbers.

Very good car ! I love the RX-8 ! compare to a $50K+ 350Z or a $50K+ STi , then the RX-8 of course not as good, but it is $10K less !

I still not crazy about the weird "4 dr " style ... so ..must be a black one !

the 4-dr style i think is really neat, and the Interior of the rx-8 is better than the 350z in my opinion

The RX8 is a tad bit overrated if only for the fact that for $40K it is slow compared to the competition. WRX's, STi's, S2000's, V6 Accord w/6-speed, RSX type S, etc. are all faster or as fast as the RX8. Plus the body styling looks good from some angles but has too much add-ons, & lines, like the 3G Eclipse which looks too muck like it rolled out of the Ponitac assembly line.

S2000 would be my choice... I think it would be more fun to drive, and end up in-between the Z and the RX8 for speed and price.

Edit: I think the Rx8 is probably a bit quicker than the RSX-S (though I admit not a lot)

I wonder what the best buy is for speed with cheap bolt-ons? Cause i could never leave a car stock for long.

I think its overrated. The power output was overrated. The handling characteristics are good, but they are outdone by the 350Z or S2000, both cars which are in direct competition.

One weird thing is how the car has very little street cred, but has won pretty much every magazine shootout I've seen it in.

I've never driven or ridden in one but when I see it on the street I hardly look twice. It's a yawner compared to the Rx-7 and I even get it mixed up with the new 6 and 3 LOL..that should never happen IMO...

i think its a great car! you get everything for 40k. it does lack in torque, but it makes it up in the handleing, it handles jsut as good as my 7 and the rx8 is a 4 seater... two from me!

test drove it and it felt slow in a straight line...but the handling was decent...only other car i drove in that class was the 350 and g35 coupe and i much prefer the way the rx-8 handles.

mazda did reduce the factory power rating and offered buy back's to all current owners not that long ago.

To me, 350z would be the best choice since it's cheeper than s2000 and the hp in 350z is pretty good.
For rx8, it's got it's own style and the price is lower too.
