    Default Quiet Cooling Solutions??

my computer is painfully loud right now and im looking to quiet it down. what are the quietest yet most efficient fans i can get? i need:

-a quiet fan that will cool an athlon 2100+ (not o/ced)

-a quiet case fan (im kinda thinking about not using a case fan at all)

im actually just looking into fans right now, not whole new cases.

im thinking of thernaltake volcano 9 for the cpu and a big and slow 120mm case fan right now...opinions?

Go with a Zalman Quiet CPU cooler, they are huge, take about 45 mins to install, but they are AWESOME.
Go with a Zalman or Vantec super quiet 80mm case fan or two.

That should help things out a bit.

Thermaltake fans are a bit loud. Vantec Aeroflow is a good, relatively quiet fan - Aeroflow 2 is no better than the original. Bought one from NCIX.com, I think they're around $35. Zalman fans are quiet too, but cost more.

Some rankings, and noise for several heatsinks: http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/socketA.asp

My offer still stands if you need to borrow a drop of my Arctic Silver 5 compound.

Best Quiet CPU cooler, Zalman 6000/7000. (Need a lot of room between CPU and PSU for these heatsinks, trust me I have one)

Case Cooling go with Pana. Low Flow 120's.

xray, thanks for the as5!! it worked great. right now im using a volcano 7 set at low and the as5 for a 2400+ and the cpu idle is 7 degrees above ambient and 10 degrees above ambient under load. awesome!!

soon ill see how well i can get the 2100+ to run with the stock 2400+ fan and some as5. do u mind if i use another drop of as5 for another mounting?

Anyone using Water cooling? They all claim to be quiter but Im not sure how they could be anymore quiter than standard setups(since your now running a pump and still need a fan for the radiator)

they are about as loud as a computer with oem fans, which is way quieter than using a 9000000rpm fan to achieve the same level of cooling.

30 db is loud dude... you havn't heard quiet yet IMO. Quiet is when your computer makes no noise but then again im at 60C idle.

The price is right Jeff. As long as you didnt get dinged $30-$40 for one.
I have found that when I install one of those I need to take it right down to the slowest speed in order to be tolerable for noise levels.
