    Red face Oversized Exhaust Ticket

So I got one of these stupid oversized exhaust tickets today...

Anyways I was looking through the history of posts and there was quite a bit I found on what exactly the law states, etc. What I would like to know is, Has anyone on this board successfully got their ticket reduced or dismissed? If so what was your tactic?

Pay the fine, that's your cheapest route. No demerits or anything.

I didn't bother fighting it cuz it was only $70.
Its not worth my time/money to fight it.

How'd you get nailed for that? Did the po po pull you over for something else and tacked that on?

Most likely I'll just pay it and forget the hassles, my question was more so out of curiosity

As for how I got it, the actual reason is that I was going a little fast 60 in a 50, but he gave me warning on that but made it up with a window tint & exhaust ticket

i thought there was a law about cops not being able to give you a ticket for something, except for what they were going to ticket you for originally..... did that make ayn sense?

Yes you make sense but thats hard to prove ya know and not sure if there is such a law.....they pull you over and you don't have insurance or license, they can still ticket you for that even though they were initially planning to give you a speeding ticket only.....but i'm sure you know that already

now i hope i make sense

I'm sure they can give you a ticket for whatever they want. If they pull you over for speeding and notice this that and the other thing then why not? You're not in compliance with the law, that qualifies you for a ticket.

I know someone who got their ticket dismissed, and all he did was come up with a picture of a stock vehicle with an enlarged exhaust tip and bring it in. Like and SUV i think was what he used to a VW I'm not sure exactly but i know he didn't have to pay it.
Cops are out to get us type of people only because of the cars we drive. And then once you drive your winter beater they won't even look twice.

I have a friend who got slapped with 500 dollars worth of tickets in one pull over...so cops are just a bunch of asses that have nothing better to do then to look for a nicely done up car, which just happens to have an enlarged exhaust tip and bam you have yourself a ticket. Or they might just give you something stupid like "did you know that it's a federal offense to have less then 3/4 full of washer fluid." So don't give them the pleasure of giving you a ticket for something that is perfectly stock and LEGAL on another vehicle!!!

Haha Comrade! I meant, if your car is not in compliance with what the state laws, I don't see why people boohoo over getting tickets. If the law says you can't have nudie girl airfreshners hanging from your rear view mirror then that's the law. Call me a complacent biatch but why waste time and effort fighting the law for petty stuff like this?

I almost got a ticket once for an enlarged exhaust for the Greddy EVO on my ride.

The cop asked me where I got the exhaust and I said T&T Honda put it on and he let me go with the warning that I may get pulled over again.

Moral of the story, them it was dealer installed and they may let you off.

I just love rumours about this that and the other.

Did you know about such and such law....
Did you know "cops" can't give you tickets for.....
Did you know, you can "fight" tickets for.....
Did you know the "cops" are all "asses"....

Assenine, misinformed, uneducated comments coupled with simple hearsay and mere assumption of traffic laws is what I read in this and other related posts.

lol. You got a ticket because your exhaust was too 'large'? I guess I better take those 35"ers off of my Jeep...

BTW, because most Lawyers have free consultations, its worth going to a couple reputable places and seeing what their opinion of the matter is. Its suprising sometimes how much you can save by doing this; if its not money, it may be a driving record. Cops would have you think exactly the opposite: its not worth your time because its a simple offense. This is in fact not an absolute rule, like most things.

The only thing that I found in the Highway traffic act that they may have used:

    (5) No person shall drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled by
an internal combustion engine equipped with a muffler or exhaust
system to which is attached any device which increases the noise of the expulsion of the gases from the engine or allows a flame to be ignited from the exhaust system.

Unless he can prove that your exhaust tip is there to increase noise, I personally cannot see how you can lose in court.

But I have been wrong before
