Is it true that if you remove the bottom piece off of the air intake tube below the air filter on a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird and just have the tube coming down, you'll get 25-30 more hp?

Actually, no. It's a common misconception that was started by aftermarket parts companies and 16 year old boy racers. The best intakes on the market RARELY give double digit gains, with most hovering around 3-7 HP at most. By removing the intake tube, you will be left with a louder car that might gain a horse or two, but it's really not worth the effort.

Ya know,... if you had a 3.1,..... did a true CAI,... removed your catalytic converter, got a performance chip,.. got a bigger throttle body,.... then maybe, if you squeeze the motor with your bare hands as well,... i can see a 25-35 hp gain.

Yeah, that could possibly work, it's just that I only got this car for around 100 bucks. I am lucky too. The motor is in pretty good condition, no knocking or anything. I think my rad might be clogged from age though or someone didn't change the antifreeze...? hahaha No prob though, I will just chnage the rad... The car is four colors right now too as I mentioned before. Black (the color I am going to paint it), Green, White(original), and Blue. The car has been crashed 3 times before and the front from the rad forward has been chopped off and re-welded back on. I do not plan on keeping this car too long but, for a first car it's not too shabby! I can drive though, very well too! I just needed a car! The only rust on the car was at the bottom of the doors and it was on the inside of the bottom not the out. I fixed that up (slowed at least...?) with some Zinc-Chromate after I sanded most of it off... I also replaced the trunk lid (so i could have a spoiler), the hood, front bumper, and right front fender. All of these were wreched from the last time it was crashed. I replaced the sun roof glass too... It was smashed! : The sunroof was custom and leaks now, that is why the roof upholstery is coming down(only in small sections, I can deal...) The top of the windshield leaks too... I will fix these with sealer...

Autosignature
peak gains vs point to point gains are 2 different things. Get a pre and post dyno, you might be surprised. Depends on how big of a piece of shit the stock intake is..
