Default Seattle police shoot $87Million lottery winner

Looks like money didn't change this guy...

Man who shared $87 million jackpot slain amid brawl at stadium

    The Associated Press
    Updated: 9:38 a.m. ET Oct. 13, 2004

SEATTLE - A man shot to death by police outside a football stadium has been identified by his family as one of the winners of an $87 million lottery jackpot.

Rick Camat, 32, was shot early Sunday as dozens of people fled to avoid a fight outside a bar before a St. Louis Rams-Seattle Seahawks game.

Police alleged that Camat was carrying a handgun and fired at a car that was leaving the area. Authorities said he crouched behind another vehicle and pointed a handgun at officers.

Relatives insisted Camat only fired into the air to break up the fight and said officers never issued a warning before shooting him.

“He shot once in the air to scare people away. He didn’t aim it at anyone,” said Camat’s brother, Brian, who was with him at the time.

Officer Debra Brown said the family’s account “differs vastly from the statements of dozens of witnesses who were at the scene that evening.”

The officer who fired at Camat remains on paid administrative leave. An internal police review and a court inquest are planned.

Camat was one of 13 Starbucks employees in Los Angeles who shared an $87 million California lottery jackpot in 2000.

He recently bought a house in Federal Way, a suburb between Seattle and Tacoma, relatives said. He previously used his share of the lottery winnings to buy a house for his mother and cars for his siblings.

What give an ordinary citizen the right to fire a shot to clear a crowd?

That is just asking for trouble. I hope he had his will filled out!!

How is he high? doesn't the american constitution claim the right to bear arms? Well if it says that, given how many idiots exist in this world, a few will be inclined to do as they please and bend the rules of their "rights"..

That guy SHOULD have been shot....stupid brother:" he was just clearing the crowd" well what goes up, will come down....dumbasses

OMG, the right to bear arms has nothing to do with shooting in a public place.

Many people have been seriously injured or killed by bullets coming down.

The right to bear arms was setup so that the country could maintain a miltia to defend against attack and was never meant to include personal gun ownership for personal protection/hunting, etc.

The second amendment is so simple that it has been twisted:

    Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

In any case, it does not give you the right to shoot at someone or break the law. It is like saying that Canadians with a hand gun permit have the right to kill people, it just doesn't make sense.

There is a difference between the right to bear arms and the right to shoot a gun in a crowded street.

to break up a fight he fires a gun.....these arent the old western days where everybody carries a "peacemaker". police are trained to respond with deadly force in that kind of situation so it doesnt really matter what direction he fired his gun in, the police did what they were supposed to do.

theres also a difference between the right to bear arms and the right for kids to steal daddys guns and shoot up the nearby elementary school.

its very likely that if the americans werent so gun friendly, then joe-crazy would be waving a baseball bat around instead of firing guns in the air.
