    Question Lancia

Anyone know much about these cars? They're a company from Italy that is owned by fiat, and they have made some sweet cars! Anyone hear of the Integrale? It won the world rally championship like, 5 times in a row or something. Had a 215 HP turbo 4 with 4whl drive, I guess it'd be like the equivalent of a WRX today. 0-60 in 5.5

Anyone know what would be involved in getting one over from europe? They also sold in the states until 1982 and had the Beta coupe for sale until then, which was a sweet looking car. Anyone know anything about this car?

In terms of trying to bring something like a Delta Integrale over, or a 037 don't waste your time. IF you can even find one for sale (which is damn near impossible to begin with due to the very low production numbers required for homologation) it would be frightfully expensive. Never mind trying to find someone to fix it when it breaks, or to get parts for it. If you were made of money it might be feasible, but even for a die hard rally fan like me it just wouldn't be worth the effort, owning a piece of WRC history aside.

In terms of WRC wins, lancia is the winngest team in WRC history, still unsurpassed.

    Lancia Stratos - 17 wins
    037 - 6 wins
    Delta S4 (Group B) - 5 wins
Delta Integrale Evolutione (Group A) - 46(!) WRC wins

Some of the most famous names in the WRC have ridden behind Lancia steering wheels, including Walter Rohrl, Carlos Sainz, Juha Kankkunen, Marku Alen and Henri Toivonen.

While you're getting a Lancia, you should take a look at this:

Holy shit! That thing is sweet! The thing on the back of the roof is ugly. I don't know exactly what it does, but if the car is as fast as posted, then it's got to be functional!

edit: Just been looking stuff up on it, man that's a fucking sweet car! http://www.preromanbritain.com/gwem/martbean/rs200/
There are only a few of these, this one's for sale starting at 135 grand! http://www.nicheauto.com/V2077%2035%...evalotion.html

If someone buys it for me, I'll abandon university and be thier personal slave for 3 years

The Lancia Delta is an awesome car. It may not be to many people's likings due to the fact that it looks like a friggin box, but that's one mutha fucking fast box!

As for the yellow car, that's a Ford RS200. They were homologated rally cars of the day, but unfortunately it's group B class was banned in rally so it's publicity wasn't all that high. But to the racing purists that's one killa car. It uses a 1.8L I4 Turbo engine which cranked out 600ish hp The evolution model came with a 2.1L I4 turbo which pushed power to 680hp. It claimed the fastest 0-60mph time in guiness world records at 2.9sec, but I think the McLaren F1 recently beat it. Rumors has it that some nut just built up the RS200 to 1000 + hp and reclaimed the record

    1. The scoop on the roof is used to direct air into the intercooler. it is a fully functional item on the RS200

    2. A buddy of mine that owns a Cosworth mod shop in Vancouver tells me that there is a genuine RS200 running around in Vancouver right now. Damn I would give my right nut to drive that beast

    Mmmmm RS200

That is one of the legendary group B cars, before they finally had to kill the class due to mounting spectator and driver deaths. A damn shame too, probably THE most technologically advanced of all of the group B cars.

That's a good site! I guess it was a good thing they cancelled that group though, cause the cars were getting so fast so quickly without being that safe, I mean, it says even modern WRC cars aren't as quick yet! 1986 must have been a shitty year for rallying!

Was the quattro the only 4whl drive vehicle throughout? It doesn't give much info on the drivetrains of the cars. What did the peugeot 205 have? I'm pretty sure the lancia S4 didn't have 4 whl drive, do you have any info on this car? I think I heard somewhere it's the only production car to ever be supercharged and turbocharged

After Henri Toivonen was killed, that was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for group B. To put the speeds these cars were hitting in perspective, Henri Toivonen ran his Lancia S4 on the portugese grand prix circuit, and his lap time would have put him in 6th on the starting grid at the F1 race that year. The cars were doing 0-60mph on gravel in the sub-3 second range. It was getting pretty ridiculous. If they knew as much then as they know now about aerodynamics and downforce, never mind beefy rollcages and all kinds of other stuff things probably wouldn't have gone nearly as badly.

As for the group B cars, 2 wheel drive cars were a distinct minority in group B. Of all the manufacturers running group B, only toyota and renault were using 2WD cars (the celica twin turbo in toyotas case (front engine rear wheel drive), and the R5 in renaults (mid engine rear wheel drive)). And yes, the lancia S4 was turbo and supercharged.

This page has about as much information on the group B cars as I have ever seen:

I think Group B cars were almost as fast as some F1 cars back in the day. They lost time in the corners but made it all back on the straights.
