you gotta do a written test and then you go for your official bike license on a bike.

take a 500c.c bike for begin.....and you will learn something from it.....Less power and easy to handle....
and you can sell it after you gain some expriences on the road..

all my friends who begin with 600 + ...dropped a few times..
and the written test is very easy...don't worry~~

do a search about newbie bikes..... cause it all depends on your size, your capabilities, the bike etc. etc. there are a bunch of threads on here talking about it...they'll help a lot!!!

as for the written test, you can also do a search over google and find some practise ones.... i'm pretty sure you can pass your test no problem after looking over the book a couple times. You'll do fine... everything is pretty consistent with the class 7 learners test... except theres some counter steering questions and some simple bike questions such as "when is it necessary to wear a DOT approved helmet??" easy stuff.... NOW GO TAKE IT!!!

EDIT: here's a quick link with similar questions that you'll be asked... http://www.2pass.co.uk/bikequiz.htm & http://www.dps.state.mn.us/dvs/DLTra.../knowledge.htm

If you wanna take a class in spring such as the Too Cool school, I would register early! I had to wait almost a month to finish my classes and get the class 6. All that time the bike was waiting in the garage.

As for the CC, go and sit on a bike, check out your budget and what you like. If you go to 500, you will find the bike super fast for about 2 weeks after which you will wonder why you bought it. The difference between a 500 and a 600 is huge speed and power wise! I would suggest to go with the 600, but be gentle on the throttle for the first few weeks.

Also, don't get a brand new bike. If you find one rashed up and beat up, that might be the best way to go. You will drop/crash your first bike for sure! --- While on the crashing subject, pull out some $$ and get boots and 2pc leathers. You will be happy you did when you're gonna slide the asphalt!
