any way to get it done on the spot, maybe jus put a battery to it and see if it goes up n down alright?, or can that damage the sub?

a battery can tell you if the sub is blown but not if it is just damaged

find a buddy with a car audio setup who can go with you and before going disconnect his subs and hook up the potential subs when you get there and see how they sound.

bring a digital meter and set it to ohms and see if it is 4 ohms if its well under 4 (2.8 and below) its blown or no good the closer to 4 the better.

Be careful if you are going to "free air" the sub 1000 watts to a small alpine free air will make car audio paper weights real quick.
