    Default Good Intercooler?

Hey guys im currently lookin for an intercooler and found one on ebay that seems pretty good, what do ya think?

"The Mishimoto intercooler is constructed of high quality 6061 aluminum. The Mishimoto intercooler inlets are 3" in diameter. The intercooler will flow at 1250 CFM. The end tanks are hand welded for a perfect fit. Because of its great size, it is perfect for fitting any vehicle, WITHOUT modifications."

What do you think? anyone everused one from this company before?

depends on the price and your goals, it looks like tube and fine core and is on the smaller side.

if you want 350hp and 20+ psi id keep looking.
but 250hp and 15psi it will do the trick.

IMO i wouldnt buy it regardless of price, but id say 175cdn is the highest reasonable offer

am i the only one that thinks 1250 cfm seems a little exagerated?

this spearco has the following specs:
This unit is approx. 20" x 14" x 3.5" with 2.5" in and out. Flows 1080 CFM with only a 1.5 pressure drop

the intercooler you posted will work fine, but i think the company is overstating themselves a bit.

i just noticed something, the advertized width of the core is 2.5" and the diameter of the inlet/outlet is 3"

Looks like a good size and 2.5 inch piping is plenty!

Depending on what size engine you have and what RPM you're running at, that core is going to have a pretty big pressure drop. The Spearco one that finboy illlustrated, for example has a flow area of: 20 x 3.5 = 70 sq. in. and flows 1000 CFM @ 1.5 psi drop

The one you're looking at is only: 6.25 x 2.25 = 14 sq. in. of flow area. If you're trying to pump even 400 CFM through that, you'll see a pretty big pressure drop. The better idea would be to have the core orientation the same as in Finboy's picture. That way at least you'd have 46 sq. in. flow area, which is probably what you should be aiming for.

heh sorry im sorta confused how you came up with those #'s, but i cant run a intercooler setup like Finboys, since i realy don't wana be cuting my bumper up so i cant have one that is that tall, and it needs to have the inlet/outlets on either end... and the whole reason i asked if this one is descent is cause it more in my price range

His numbers are the cross sectional flow area. ie how big the opening is. this doesnt tell the whole story tho. as yes it will get more air in easier (less pressure drop) but the air spends less time in the IC (less cooling) It all depends on your application as to which would be better, as its all a trade off till you shell out the money for the "just right" IC core and suck it up and cut into the bumper till it fits well.
Ill tell ya right now (and before) that the IC isnt as good as they make it sound. and how good or bad it will be for you depends on your application (which i know nothing about)

Yes but there is less ar in each little section to be cooled. I have the intercooler finboy posted and it is amazing. Costs just a little more though. LOL.
