Is there any cheap online discount brokers for like $15 or less a transaction?
Do you just go to td waterhouse (i konw this is a dumb Q) and sign up? is there an account fee? does it charge for transfering money?
Does anyone else use discount brokers?
You have to go into a branch to set up an account, and you can deposit cash into the account right there.Originally posted by lilqt23

There is a $15 non-activity fee after every 3 months I believe. If you continue activity, there is no fee.
If you find a broker for $15/less for CDN customers, let me know.

I use TD Waterhouse and Action Direct. You don't have to go into the branch to setup an account. You can do it right on-line.
I think if you take online statements instead of paper statements they waive the inactivity fee (not sure but something you may want to look into)Originally posted by Weapon_R

You can get very cheap trades if you have 25,000+ in account.
or very good credit. (Mostly American online trading).
Also, did you check out E-Trade (.ca) they are good/cheap.
BUT, if you have around 20K or want to keep close tabs of your money, TD is worth the peace of mind.
What about online brokers. Do it yourself ones?
Has anyone used Credential Direct? or questtrade? its $9.95 a trade.
That is what TD Waterhouse and Action direct is. Online do-it yourself. They charge a small fee for making the transaction. You do all the bidding and asking yourself. They charge anywhere from $30 to $75 a transaction, depending on the size of the bid or sell.
