Purchasing Pets From Across the Border

Does anyone know where to find information about what is required to purchase a pet from the US and bring it into Canada? I was directed to the Ministry of Agriculture but I didn't find anything on that site.
Has anyone bought a dog from the states before and remembers some steps required or what direction I need to search?

Try here at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The CFIA covers livestock and pets even though the name is deceiving.
