Default Sometimes computer has troubles starting up.

My computer won't post properly maybe 1 in 15 times that I turn it on. The CD and DVD drives will spin up and down, the monitor won't power on, and nothing else really happens. Most other times my computer is totally fine. What's up with this? I'm guessing that the CMOS battery is getting old, but I really don't know.

Hahaha, lemme count how many I have...14 already!

So if this is a power supply issue, how come this problem only crops up every once in a while and never while the computer is on?

I have an Enermax 350W that's 3 years old now. (hahaha the only reason I knew it was Enermax is cuz of the Enermax sticker on the case) It powers an Athlon XP 2400+, 2 optical drives, 2 regular case fans, 1 Thermaltake CPU fan, sound card add-on, TV tuner card, and all the other standard stuff.

Hmm I don't know about the psu problem then because I have a 300W Enermax and I think I have more stuff plugged in than you do or at least the same amount; no problems.

Well, not ruling it out but you could have a failing mobo, CPU or RAM.

Well I hope it's none of the above, this computer, though 3 years old, is still serving me well. What should be the first thing I do? Replace the PSU? Or just ignore the problem until it gets worse?

Well we don't even know what the exact problem is. Maybe you need to reformat the HD? Who knows, but I wouldn't go spending money on a new psu until you are relatively certain wtf the problem is...

If it is having trouble posting I really doubt it has anything to do with what is on the HDD.

Try replacing the PSU. If the problem persists then you can go from there. It wont hurt having a bigger PSU and you can always use it when you upgrade your computer later on.

I definately wouldn't ignore the problem until it gets worse. Thats the time when your computer wont boot up at all, and then youre really screwed.
