Notebooks? Acer/MDG?

Well, I am kinda semi-deciding to get a new laptop.

I have been really inclined towards Acer as their prices are very competative, and have really nice designs. Does anyone have any sort of experiences with their laptops? I personally havn't heard anything notoriously bad, but I am not sure.

One thing that I noticed this morning when looking though the friday flyers is that the MDG and Acer Laptops look, litterally identical. I know that MDG is crap (from what I have heard, anyone with experiences here??). The MDG is about $100 cheaper than the Acer too.

Any ideas/suggestions?

I've owned acer products and will never go back, probably one of the worst computers on the market in my opinion.

What are you looking to get out of the laptop: desktop replacement, portable, gaming, school...

Sorry about that, I probably should have said this first.

I am going to sell the laptop that I have right now (PIII 500) which does the job very well, and is a Dell CSX, Very slim/small.

I want portability with good battery life. I won't be gaming very much on it. As long as it has 512MB and a Pentium M (any clock speed) it would be fine.

Any others with experiences with Acer

acers are like the kia of laptops... they're super cheap and you get what you pay for, spend the extra 100-200$ and buy a better brand... you'll be happy that you did.

acer = crap..
( i worked a warranty depot / im a computer tech) trust me.. Toshiba (only if its truely made by toshiba - not subcontracted would be the way to go...
