I think you are looking for vinyl light difuser. You can get it in different strengths and it "frosts" the light coming through. I cna get it through my supplier and do the istall for you if you want. Pm me if you're interested. Are you using it just to customize or to cover a broken tailight? If it's a custom look you're going for I'd be interested to see how it turns out. I've never seen anyone do it. They all go for the clear euro look. Give me a shout and I'll hook you up.

go to east west plastics and ask for a 2 mil translucent white vinyl, you'll probably want a 8 year vinyl

yes light does pass through. if you come by my shop i can show you some display items i made w/ the frosted vinyl. the vinyl is back lit so you can see how the light looks coming through.
