Question Converting from OBD-0 to OBD-1?

Does anyone have any insight on this topic?

I have a buddy who is trying to convert his car from OBD-0 to OBD-1... It is an 89 Accord with the factory a20a3 motor.

I have been told that the distributor needs to be changed to an OBD-1 dist as well, but how would a person go about doing this?

And once converted ... what would be a good choice for an ECU to run uberdata on?

    thanks

He's going to need an OBD1 distributor, a 4-wire O2 sensor, an OBD0-OBD1 wiring harness and an OBD1 ECU. OBD1 ecus are a better choice to run uberdata on.

You will have to repin the OBD0 wires to the OBD1 distributor. Just use a pick to pop the pins out of the OBD0 distributor connector and plug them directly into the OBD1 distributor connector. That way you don't have to splice the wires.

Oh yeah, match the colours up for the distributor wires:

    OBD0 OBD1
    Blue/Yellow Blue/Yellow
    White White
    White/Blue White Blue
    Peach Peach
    Peach/Blue Peach/Blue
    blue/green Blue
    Thick white yellow/green

Or you can buy a harness from rywire.com to convert the distributor.

    wow awesome richard... thanks.

Also, who makes a good conversion harness for the obd0 to obd1 ECU conversion?

And do you have another list for the wiring part on the ecu?

For the conversion harness, try boomslang.us or jkobd.com. They both make quality harnesses at decent prices. The only other ECU wiring you have to do is for the 4-wire O2 (4 wires):

O2 sensor wire color / OBD1 ECU pin
    green / Any GND pin (i.e. D22)
    white / O2 signal (D14)
    black (beside green) / Any +12V pin (i.e. A25)
    black (beside white) / O2 Heater (A6)

Try to find an 4 wire O2 sensor plug so that you can unplug your O2 sensor. I wouldn't recommend going direct from O2 sensor to ECU.

JKOBD can't compete with boomslang.. I gave him an opportunity match the pricing of boomslang but couldn't/wouldn't do it. Buy 5 and you get a better deal.

Heh. JKOBD matched the boomslang price for my last harness... I saved a whopping $10! But I suppose if you're buying 5 at once it would add up quite quickly.

    lol 5 harnesses geez.

Thanks for the help guys... are the harnesses for the conversion fairly generic... like will it make much of a difference what vehicle its for?

I will definately pass on this information, and it might be very useful for myself in the near future.
