    Default Hurricane Katrina

I've been watching CNN for the last 48 hours or so, this thing looks intense. They evacuated New Orleans and those that couldn't leave were hoarded into the super dome. Now it seems the roof of the Super Dome is coming off.

They says more than a million very well may be homeless after this hurricane and the city (because of the levees only being 20 ft tall) might become a giant swamp of grossness cause the storm surge and the waves are going to be well over that hight and once the water spills over, it will have no where to go. Apparently the environmental emergency analists will have to deal with a stangnant swamp of a city fill of floating chemicals, sewage waste and even coffins

I'm hoping for the best for everyone down south, a CNN analyist last night said that a situation with zero loss of life is virtually impossible to even consider. If that's the case, I'm hoping the loss will be minimal. There are 10,000 people in that quickly deteriorating Super Dome though

Brutal. I hope everything works out o.k. without too much damage.

Very scary stuff. They said some parts of New Orleans are underwater and most buildings just completely crumbled.

Reminds me of the tragically hip song "New Orleans is sinkin, and I don't wanna swim"

Wow, that's quite the storm! I'mn sure we won't see most of the damage until it's over, though.

I have family in Kenner, LA, just outside of New Orleans. My aunt and 2 of my cousins took off to Tennessee and my other cousin and uncle stayed at home. Talked to them last night, but tried phoning them this morning but the phones are out.....

I think CNN said that 1/3 of all of America's oil production goes through Louisiana ports. This could have big oil-price effects.

I expect the oil to go up (it's goes up evern someone sneezes these day) but didn't expect $ to go up. Time to vacation in the U.S.

But basically all the platform out are sea are stopped and that reduced 1/2 million barrels/day.

For what it's worth, Forbes believes the current oil prices are based on speculators, and will crash within the next year. That's not to say gas won't keep getting expensive, but should be back around 40-50/barrel.

man i was watching CNN also the past few days. this is crazy. they are saying it will probably be 4-6 months before people are even allowed back to their homes
what a sad event, the city is totalled, everything is being stolen by looters who stayed behind. they are soooooo fuck for the next year at least.
I wonder how the CEO's and owners of insurance company's are feeling right about now. 25 billion in damage, WOW
what kind of genious builds a city below sea level that was a disaster waiting to happen and unfortunately it did happen
on topic of looting, here is a very biased example of journalism i found.
