Nice work as always.
The fuel surge tank, does the stock pump just fill the container (easier to maintain volume at low pressure) and the additional pump in the surge tank provides the higher volume and pressure to the rails?

Yeah exactly. Since the stock pump is filling the surge at 0psi it will flow a lot more than under normal conditions. The bosch 044 is pretty dated and a modern walbro 450 in-tank would knock its socks off, but I had this surge tank setup just sitting there and it should be enough pump and injector for 500whp on gasoline. Won't be able to touch E85 with it though.

Looks awesome man, would love to see it in action.
This thing gets me very excited for some reason. I cant wait to see where you keep going with it.
Today was a bust. Built my fuel lines and went to run the pumps and check fuel pressure and... nothing. Pump is running but not making pressure. Pulled the surge tank out and disassembled it, bench tested the pump in a jug of fuel and no flow at all. It is a technically brand new pump but seals must be garbage from sitting dry for ten years. Extremely annoying as I wouldn't even be running one of these, and they cost TWICE as much as a walbro 450 which flows 50% more, but I had this surge tank system just sitting in my parts hoard.
Anyway, new bosch 044 ordered and hopefully it's not a turd. Throwing the car on the dyno Friday regardless, whether the new pump gets here in time or not. Can always dyno it again later if need be.
Threw it on the dyno today and cranked out DOUBLE the stock horsepower on 13psi. 410rwhp vs 205rwhp. Stock fuel pump was able to support this power, I think the flexfuel cars got decent pumps. Whole surge tank adventure was just pissing in the wind.
Oof! Nice work, big gains!
That thing will absolutely spank the Golf, way more then I would have guessed but I’m still up for it!

Whats the curve look like? Also impresses. That's awesome.
I forgot to grab a picture but I will monday. Needless to say, it spools a lot faster and harder than I thought a 78mm turbo would so makes an assload of torque down low and I'm concerned about the dinky stock rods lol. Will see how long they last.
Ive got some pretty good seat time in a '03 Mercury Marauder, close friend used to own one.
This thing would be way more fun!
How stout is the dif/trans on those? You think the rods are the weak point eh?
Those numbers make me happy. Should trap 112-114mph? Mid/low 12's with traction?
Nvm found a pic someone else got, stock vs boostedThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Huge torque as well, what does the car weigh? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Could roll race this vs the Trackhawk with those kind of numbers.

Yeah, look at the low end torque…now wonder you’re concerned about the stock rods! Nice!
Trash-picked a free fancy diff cover from a guy that blew his diff up. Some shrapnel damage but cleaned up nicely. Will put it on next week.
Also extended my ABS harness so that's functional again. I actually hate ABS, but I hate the dash lights more.
Nice find, definitively cleaned up nice.
Exhaust wrap - do you find a big difference in temps? Do you buy the DEI brand stuff or just whatever random stuff off of amazon?
I'm on the fence about using it for my setup. ( I will be using a turbo blanket)
Massive, massive difference. Turbo blanket is the bare minimum but I recommend wrapping any exhaust components in the engine bay. The benefits are threefold:
1-Keeps everything in the bay cooler and helps make power
2-Keeps heat IN the turbo system and helps spool and power. Heat is energy, energy spins the turbo.
3-You won't be melting everything close to the exhaust components. Or boiling brake fluid in the case of my ABS unit.
DEI stuff is the best, and is stretchier so wraps nicer, but I just use amazon stuff and it still functions the same just doesn't look as nice. The main thing is that you get the titanium stuff, it doesn't crumble and fall apart like the black or white or any other colour heat wrap.
I'm convinced haha. Using a turbo log manifold and a factory manifold modified. So I really only have the downpipe to wrap under the hood and I guess it wouldn't hurt to wrap the crossover either.
Edit: Looks like you like to use the 2" vs the 1" sized material?

You can send those out for ceramic coating if you want, couple shops in town do it. Makes old parts look prettier too.
