We always do real and the more Charlie Brown style the better. Best tree we had was a few years back because it even came with an actual bird's nest in it.
We usually just put up a small 3' tree. It has all the ornaments my son made over the years, and is more of a nostalgic tree. Our 7' tree just went up for the first time in years, as we typically don't bother as we always spend Christmas with family in BC, but it doesn't look like that will happen this year. Bought that tree maybe 25 years ago and its still going strong.

Went this route this year. $25 IKEA tree.....and you get a $25 IKEA Gift Card when you buy it...so win/win. Get a real tree, for pretty much nothing.

Anyone know how to dim an prelit LED tree? It has RF remote but no dim functions.

Cab you share photos if you have, please?
Bump.
Looking to take the family out this year to cut our own tree. Got a permit that says we can cut upto 3 Christmas tree's upto 2.5m tall. Since this is our first year, and we don't really head out into the back country at all, how far are we going to need to travel to get something? We are in NW Calgary and heading out Wiaparous way, unless someone has some tips for me. PM if you want. Any help is appreciated. Kids are 3 and 5...
Wherever you go, don’t park in the middle of the road loitering with your kids running around on a highway. I see this every year in McLean Creek and Waiparous areas with lots of truck traffic towing trailers being blocked by pedestrians. I’d think this is common sense, maybe not though. Be safe.
Around Elbow Falls west of Bragg is popular.

We like supporting the Junior Wardens group. They are usually set up for a safe family adventure, and with two little guys might be a good way to go.

Go up around the Aspen area, great trees (hence the name) plus close to downtown and neighborhood so rich they just replace the tree.
If you cut down a tree in Aspen two take its place.
When you cut down a tree in aspen, and angel gets its wings.
