Somewhat same thing happened to my friends brother. He was getting chinese food in Chinook and he left his bank card there. The kid working went and looked on the camera, got the pin and then he took out 1 grand (which isn't much to my friends bro) so my friends bro went there asked for his card the kid said no. Well he just lost it and punched the kid.Originally posted by JAYMEZ_STi

I am always cautious while buying something from macs now. They have 2 comps and right when you hit in your pin they go and hit some button. It could be for a reciept but I dont know.
ive tried to pay for wendy's with my CC, and they said they dont accept it, this was at the westhills location
this is a prime example why i only use debit/credit for big purchases and carry more cash on me for food etc.
avatar is looking awesome...lol JAYMEZ
my card was used being skimmed, but it wasn't till recently that they told me! good thing they didn't take my $
This could happen anywhere, it's not too hard to get credit card numbers from the retail side. The part of the receipt you sign shows your full credit card number and expiry date, and the security code is right where your signature on your card is. So the clerk just pretends to look closely at your signature to check it is the right one, gets your security number, then you hand them the part of the receipt you sign and bam you just gave away your credit card number.

i worked at a full serve gas station, this kid was taken peoples credit cards and swiping them once for gas and once for cash, all in all he took about 1500 dollars, i see no reason to use a credit card for anything other than large purchases, the more you use it, the more likely this shit will happen
I'm reading some of the replies and here's my justification for not carrying money and always using CCs. I don't like carrying cash on me because I go through it really quickly by buying stupid things. I have more restraint if I'm putting things on cards. I also hate carrying change so CC is more convenient but debits have charges on them after a certain amount so the CC is the best way to go (providing you pay them off every month)
Would it help if I put black tape over the security number?Originally posted by Chim

wow, this sounds way too easy to be pulled off. i'll definetely watch out, thanks for the heads up!
I agree. - I'm one of the people who uses credit cards for everything - I like the fact that I can keep track of purchases more so then with cash purchases (where I tend to forget about buying things)....also, i'm paranoid about losing cash, and change is a hassle so card works for me. Also with credit cards, the benefit I see over debit cards is that they don't have a service charge.Originally posted by BebeAphrodite

How is that possible? When did Wendy's start taking CC? It would cut out large chunks (if not all) of their profits since they sell very low cost goods. This is the reason why no fast food places accept CCs, including Wendy's.Originally posted by JAYMEZ_STi

I am one of the unfortunate ones who's had BOTH debit and credit cards skimmed and copied. With my debit card, I think they were using a track 2 scanner too (i was told track 2 contains your pin #, so they don't even need to watch you enter your pin).
If this happens to you, the only thing you need to do is go to your bank and let them know what happened. Almost all banks have a commissioner of oaths (in Calgary anyway) so they'll make you sign and swear that it is not you making those transactions.
Dropping by the police station and making a report doesn't hurt either (there's actually a pretty large file there for skimmed debit and credit cards).
Then you wait 2-3 weeks for the bank to investigate, and then you get your money back.
If you don't, you can call the obudsman for all canadian banks and talk to them about what you can do (it never got this far for me).
Unfortunately for me, my debit card was skimmed right when I was purchasing my home. I had to delay the lender several times and explain to them what was going on
