When I went to the Singapore GP in 2019 I was surprised on how well every single part of the venue was fenced off and blacked out. We only had race day tickets and we walked the permitter during qualifying day with the hope of seeing something and we couldn't see a single thing. When we entered the grounds on race day it was the same thing, everything was fenced off and blacked out, so you couldn't just buy a general admission ticket and then hang out along the track somewhere to watch the actual race. The only way that I could see you watching the race for "free" is if you had a hotel or apartment with a view of the circuit, but even the hotels would probably charge you a mini fortune if your room had any sort of view.
