TLDR: Every light except my check engine light comes on. I've replaced the old depleated OEM battery, no other symptoms.
I've got a 2015 Acura RDX with the 3.5L V6. We've owned this vehicle since new (Aug 2014) and it now sits at 116,xxx km. The only issues we've ever had were a blown CV joint that I replaced in the summer with an Acura part, and after the first two years it stopped recognizing the TPMS sensors in my wheels despite getting the batteries changed. We just learned to live with the light over winter.
Two weeks ago my wife was driving by Ikea and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. She pulled over and called me. I instructed her to turn off the car and turn it back on. When she did this all the lights went away. A few days later it did the same thing and she shut it off and turned it back on and the lights were gone. Doing some reading it sounds like this is super common with the Acuras/Hondas when the battery starts to go so I made a note to pick up a new battery. The OEM battery was over 5 years old so it made sense that it was time to change it.
Last Monday I swapped over to the winters that I know the computer won't read the TPMS sensors in them. The car drove fine for 4 days then on our way to Saskatchewan the dash lit up when I was driving it just past Strathmore. The lights that came on were:
- Check VSA System
- Check ABS System
- Check Hill Start Assist System
- Check Power Steering System
- Check Brake System
- Check AWD System
- TPMS Sensors (This is legit)
When you shut the car off the push start/stop doesn't work unless you hold it for 5+ seconds and it flashes green. Following shutting it off I get a yellow key with an exclamation mark which the internet tells me is the smart key warning light.
I cleaned the bajesus out of the cables and replaced the battery once I got to Saskatoon but the lights stayed on. I also performed a "battery reset" where you remove the cables from the terminals and connect them with a jumper wire to dissipate any stored energy. This cleared the lights for about the first 3km of my next trip but they came back and stayed on again. Last night I pulled the battery, gave everything another cleaning, and checked litterally every single fuse in the car. I still have power steering, there doesn't seem to be an issue with my brakes, I haven't tested the ABS or AWD or hill start assist but nothing (besides the light) indicates that they aren't working. I cannot turn the VSA system on or off using the traction control button in the bottom left hand corner of the dash.
Any ideas? I'm going to try and get into NW Acura for a diagnosis because Silverhill ALWAYS fucks us but in the meantime is there anything else I should check?
