    Default Deloitte Consulting

Does anyone here work at Deloitte Consulting? I have a few questions I was hoping to ask.

    1) In terms of all the travel obligations, do you find when you come back thursday night, you're too exhausted to enjoy your weekend?

    2) In general, roughly how many years does it take to move from a jr level to a sr one?

    3) How many hours do you normally work a week? I've heard stories of in excess of 60 hours, whereas some say 45 is the norm.

    4) How supportive are they in your development goals? Is it difficult to request training, or to get them to support you in pursuing a graduate degree like an MBA?

    5) What is the culture like? Do fellow consultants and analysts work cooperatively, or is there a lot of office politics, backstabbing, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

I know someone who works for EY doing consulting (in the US)

For him, they're all about future development and training.

Usually, he flies out to wherever Sunday afternoon, and will fly back home Friday afternoon.

From what it seems, since he switches projects alot, and same with other people, it's always different people.

also..the company perks/benefits are pretty generous when he's somewhere else..

I know a few people who work at Deloitte (or I should say used to work at Deloitte). Basically, what i've heard from them is that they are pretty happy to not work there anymore since there is a Partner there that no one likes (Partner is on the IT side - not audit side). I won't go into details but if you ask anyone who works there now or used to, they'll know who i'm talking about.

In addition, a few people have told me that there are cultural issues at Deloitte since merging w/ Andersen which has caused a bit of a rift between the teams. This is slowly changing but they are not quite there.

What exactly is a consultant? I know theres oilfied consultants, computer consultants etc etc, but really, what the hell is it? Just a person with lots of experience in some sort of field contracting themselves out? Whats the deal?

I applied for this position as well and am curious for some more information....it sounds like a very interesting position but I think like everything else at these firms, they sugarcoat everything.

All these accounting firms are only good for people starting out in the industry to get traing and such.

Most of the stories I heard is that they over work their staff all the time while pay is only market average or sometime below.

45hr/week is pretty much light load. I've seen some 60-70hr weeks for accountants and tax specialist during peak seasons without extra compensation except time in lure.

If you're starting out and want some training and certification, it's a good place. But I'll give it 2-3 years max. Most take off after certifications to greener pasture right the way.

This is for their professional consulting services, not their audit services.

Why don't you ask these questions at the interview? Thats what an interview is for. You're jsut gonna get BS answers from people who know only a little or don't know anything about it here

I was hoping to get the opinion of someone that works there, that isn't directly involved in the recruiting process, to reduce some possible bias.

Anyone who works here basically likes/loves it. Anyone who has left hates it or couldn't hack it or got a good offer somewhere else. That's the reality. The interview is for you to assess the company too. Employers aren't going to lie about expectations, but you will have to travel and you will have to put in extra time at times depending on criticality and timing. Every company is like that

What did people think of the interview? I know a couple of people who went and said it was pretty easy. Just wondering what others thought.

I thought it went alright. The first part was just the typical interview. The case was a little different. I expected to be given a little more information, but it wasn't anywhere as bad as I thought it would be. The people seem really nice and easy to get a long with, though, which is definately good.

One thing though was that 2hrs is quite a long time. My stomach started growling during the second part.

I have just accepted an offer at EY, pretty much have to agree with everything he said. Deloitte was the only top firm I didn't get the opportunity to check out, but in my opinion EY is probably the best suited to everyones individual needs.
