    Default tire size question

thinking about getting some nice rims for the civic (4x100), but want to do away with the stock 13" steelies i got now.
Stock tire size is 175/70R13. If I wanted to put 16" rims on there, what would i have to change the second number to so that it won't throw off my speedo too much? If someone could explain what each increment of the first 2 numbers means in cm or inches, i could probably figgure out the rest.

    thanks,
    Chris.

The first number regards the width of the tire at its widest point. It's measured in millimeters. The second number regards the height of the sidewall, but the number is a percent of your width.
So for your tires, your sidewall height is going to be 70% of 175 millimeters.

The "second number" for your 16 inch wheels is going to be dependant on the tire size you choose as a "first number". Hope that helps. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken

For the Civic with 16" rims, you should mount 205/45 16 tires. This will keep your speedo within a percent of the original 13" rims/tires.

go with something like 195/50/16 on your 16's

a 70 side wall is HUGE.

205/40/16 is the correct tire size if you have an EF civic. 205/45/16 if you have 92-2000.
