firewall removal?

so i dl'ed a couple programs to get rid of pop ups (didn't work that well) and i've found i can't send/recieve pm's on a couple other forum's.

could this be a firewall problem? if so, how do i get rid of them?

Go download adaware, and clean all the crap. Then come back.
