best deal on HD camcorder?

I need to get a video camcorder this weekend, might as well get an HD one. The main purpose for now, is to mount it in the car for some lapping sessions at race city (1st one is wednesday). But I'll be using it in a few months to film the baby too.

Any recomendations?

I went with form factor. Normally, I would never buy Sony Cameras of any kind. But this is so portable.

the hv30 or canon hf10 were both tempting, and it was almost a dead heat between the hf10 on reviews compared to the sony sr11.

I ended up getting the sr12 today, I was impatient and they had a sale @ sony so I got it for $200 off, plus a free case and free extra battery, so it came out to about the same price if not cheaper with the freebies as the sr11. (120gb vs 60gb)

Alright, so I'm going to take this Sony hdr-sr12 back. the camrea is awesome, so easy to use, the picture is great.

But, being hard drive based, it has a "feature" called drop protection. which turns the hard drive off.

The reason I want a camera is to mount in my car to record lapping sessions and drag racing. I can only get about a half lap in before its too bumpy, or just too much vibration, and then it shuts off.

So, I think I need a miniDV camera?

Whats recommended for a miniDV one, in High Def of course.

fuck, I finally watched that....twice. There is a lot of post processing, but that's a nice capture indeed.

I picked up the Canon HV30 today after much debate.

Saneal and The Camera Store have it on for $839 right now. Have not tried it out yet.
