Default 2008 Beyond NHL Playoff Predictions

Well, once again, playoffs are here! =)
The final games have been played, and its prediction time!

    EASTERN CONFERENCE

    1) MONTREAL vs 8) BOSTON

    Prediction Montreal in 5.

Montreal on an absolute hot streak. Price is doing incredible inbetween the pipes. Boston pretty much limped their way
into 8th seed. I can see a slaughter fest happenin on
    a fatigued Boston team.

    2) PITTSBURGH vs 7) OTTAWA

    Prediction Ottawa in 6.

I absolutely LOVE watching these two teams play,
for the simple fact of the majority of the games
ending in 6-5 wins for either team, and usually coming back
from a 3 goal deficite in the 3rd. Ottawa struggled near the
end, and have some BIG injuries that may hurt them, however
I think Gerber has the experience in the net, which will
play a big factor against the dual roled goaltending on the
penguins team. Plus I'm just an Ottawa fan =)

    3) WASHINGTON vs 6) PHILADELPHIA

    Prediction Washing in 6.

Not sure how this series will go, I cant say I really
like Philly's playing style, and with Washinton and
their Cinderella season ending, I'm pretty sure they
will have a few more surprises comin.

    4) NEW JERSEY vs 5) NEW YORK RANGERS

Prediction New York Rangers in 7.

Two of THE best goaltenders in the east, this is the only
series i think in either conference that will go to seven games.
Rangers have big names whom everyone thought would
do amazing in regular season (Drury, Gomez) that didnt
step up. We all know how Drury plays come play off time.
My vote is Rangers. Hell of a series here.

    HERE'S WHAT REALLY COUNTS!

    WESTERN CONFERENCE

    1) DETROIT vs 8) NASHVILLE

    Prediction Detriot in 5.

Not quite a clean sweep, however the wings should
not have a problem with the Preds. Lack of goaltending,
and big goal scorers, they wont have a chance against
Detriot's defence line, who always stands strong.

    2) SAN JOSE vs 7) CALGARY

    Prediction San Jose in 6.

We all know Calgary comes out to play, however I think
this is THE worst match up Calgary could have got.
San Jose has been a sleeper time all year,
not really hitting all the headlines, but always playing
solid and staying under the radar. Really unfortuante for
    our Flames =(

    3) MINNESOTA vs 6) COLORADO

    Prediction Minnesota in 5.

I still love Backstrom in net, he is by far my favorite goaltender.
Colorado has a fairly decent time, however come play off time,
I dont think they can rely on a strong goaltender against
    a constant offensive Wild.

    4) ANAHEIM vs 5) DALLAS

    Prediction Anaheim in 6.

Dallas always crumbles come play offs. No wait.
Turco always crumbles come play offs.
Ducks will have another great play off run.

Well those are my picks and why I think each time will
win each series, lets hope I can improve from my
    record last play off =)

    EAST
    (1) MTL vs. (8) BOS
MTL in 5... Boston is too weak a team to compete with anyone in the East.

    (2) PIT vs. (7) OTT
PIT in 6... Pens goaltending is good at best, but the Sens are a very fragile team with no quality leadership.

    (3) WSH vs. (6) PHI
WSH in 7... Caps lack experience, but Ovechkin is way too driven to roll over.

    (4) NJ vs. (5) NYR
NJ in 7... Brodeur at his best this time of year and NJ has some awesome perennial playoff performers in Langenbrunner and Madden.

    WEST
    (1) DET vs. (8) NSH
DET in 5... Wings have no holes in their lineup, if Hasek is too tired, Osgood can pick up the pieces. Preds are a gritty team but lack scoring.

    (2) SJ vs. (7) CGY
SJ in 6... Sharks can roll all four lines at will. Flames defensemen are too slow to keep up with the Shark's forecheck and cycling. (Very optimistic the Flames can pull it off though)

    (3) MIN vs. (6) COL
COL in 7... Avs have skill, experience, leadership and a confident Theodore. Lack of secondary scoring may be the Wild's demise.

    (4) ANA vs. (5) DAL
ANA in 6... Ducks have the size, speed and toughness to play five series, not to mention a dream defensive core to back it up. Stars are screwed without Zubov in the lineup.

    EASTERN CONFERENCE:

    #1 MTL vs. #8 BOS
    MTL in 5
    - They are 11-0 vs. BOS dating back to middle of last season!
    - Savard is injured.
    - I think Price can carry the Canadiens - he was unbeatable w/ Hamilton last year in the AHL esp. during Calder Cup run.
    - Kovalev is enjoying his best season EVER!
    - #1 PP in the league!
    - Thomas could very easily steal a couple games for BOS pushing the series to 6.

    #2 PIT vs. #7 OTT
    PIT in 6
    - Malkin has shown he can run the show without Sidney.
    - Hossa should flourish with Sidney but needs to work his magic on the PP.
    - Fleury is better than Gerber/Emery.
    - Alffy is out.
    - Gonchar solid on D.

    #3 WSH vs. #6 PHI
    WSH in 6
    - Mr. 65 goals and 112 points...OVI!
    - Run and gun style of play with offense first.
    - Physical battles will be tough for WSH to endure.
    - Nothing to loose for the Caps.
    - Huet is solid between the pipes.
    - Gotta' cheer for my buddy Mike Green!!

    #4 NJ vs. #5 NYR
    NYR in 7
    - GOALTENDING DUEL! I think Lundquist will win this battle!
    - Jagr, Gomez and Drury will light Brodeur up like a Christmas tree!
    - I'm not sure if Elias and Parise can carry the offensive load but if Pandolfo can get rolling it could make things interesting.

    WESTERN CONFERENCE:

    #1 DET vs. #8 NSH
    NSH in 6
    - NSH has been the dark horse of the West.
    - DET has inconsistent goaltending plus I hate Hasek and Osgood.
    - Ellis and Mason have been very good this season and this is a great opportunity for them to shine.
    - Season series was 3-3-2 and Ellis stole 2 games and the one OTL was 1-0 on the shootout.
    - I think NSH has the potential to upset DET!

    #2 SJ vs. #7 CGY
    CGY in 7
    - Another possible upset?!
    - CGY has to minimize PP opportunities.
    - Nabokov vs. Kipper...Kipper! But Nabby is no slouch!
    - Season series was 3-1 in favor of CGY.
    - If our defense plays how it can/should we have the capability of winning.
    - Key will be to shut down Thornton.
    - Best power forward in the NHL... Iggy!
    - Will be a bruising series.
    - Secondary scoring has been working for CGY recently and SJ is still looking for their groove in that department.

    #3 MIN vs. #6 COL
    COL in 6
    - Trade deadline acquisitions will pay dividends.
    - Theodore is looking like his Vezina trophy days.
    - COL has scoring depth while MIN stops at Gaborik and Rolston.
    - Backstrom will do his best to keep MIN in it.
    - Foresberg could be a force.
    - Burns could play a big role for MIN on D but COL looks solid.

    #4 ANA vs. #5 DAL
    DAL in 7
    - Turco is FINALLY ready to roll.
    - The Richards trade will finally pay off.
    - Fuck Pronger
    - Ribeiro has found his touch.
    - DAL is a gritty team but will have to work hard in the trenches to beat ANA fierce brutality.
    - Season series was 5-2-1 in favor of DAL.
    - Goals for/against for DAL was 242/207; for ANA was 205/191.
    - If Zubov can't play at all this series then it could be curtains?!

    EAST

    (2) PIT vs. (7) OTT
PIT in 6... Two teams going in opposite directions

    (3) WSH vs. (6) PHI
WSH in 6, once again two teams headed in opposite directions

    (4) NJ vs. (5) NYR
NJ in 6 NY dominated all year but Brodeur is a playoff machine

    WEST
    (1) DET vs. (8) NSH
DET in 6- Wings are good but it is the playoffs

    (2) SJ vs. (7) CGY
Flames in 6-Campbell does not play well when hit and that is what Calgary will do, this will come down to the goalies

    (3) MIN vs. (6) COL
COL in 7- After the deadline Col has gotten a lot better and Forsberg is a playoff machine

    (4) ANA vs. (5) DAL

I like how so many people are taking Calgary to win the series. Hate to say it guys, but the chances of Detroit NOT winning that series is next to nil. (As much as I'd love Calgary to pull of the upset...)

to bad there not playing detroit, and im not sure why so many people think san jose will ass rape calgary ( not specifically this thread) honestly we beat them all season and all they added was campbell and bernier so i think we have a good chance. Not to mention they lost to straight so let the slide begin haha...

anyway my picks are washington, pitts, new jersey, and montreal in the east. And in the west ill say detroit, calgary if kipper plays well, anahiem, and minnesota

    ANA vs. DAL ---> ANA
    PHI vs. WSH ---> PHI
    NJ vs. NYR ---> NJ

that dumb bitch monkey picked all the teams with more points to win. Not necessarily the teams with the higher ranking, because the caps are ahead of philly but have less points. I dont really care for many of the other teams i just want our FLAMES to go far. We have the depth we just have to use it. Flames in 6

MTL over BOS. -- Boston's not that good a team, Montreal is.

PIT over OTT. -- Ottawa just don't have the firepower or the defense to keep up with Pittsburg this year.

WAS over PHI. -- Capitals are still too hot to touch, and Ovetchkin will be playing with some serious fire under his ass.

NYR over NJ. -- I originally pegged NJ, but NJ hasn't beat NYR in regulation all season (8 games). Plus NJ doesn't have a lot of firepower (Parise and Gionta?) while NYR has plenty (including Drury who loves to come alive in the playoffs). Also, Lundqvist is hax, definitely the second best goalie in the east (we all know the first).

DET over NSH. -- It won't be a sweep but Detroit is too strong for Nash

ANA over DAL. -- Playoff experience, toughness, goaltending, probably almost as strong as they were last year. Don't think Dallas can do much against them.

MIN over COL. -- Minny is underrated. Good hockey club this year, and home ice will play a big part. Fuck Forseberg.

    SJ v. CGY
I just can't decide about the Flames series. Even putting my biases behind me, it's too tough to call. I don't think there's another team in the west that can stop SJ better than Calgary and I think the winner of this series goes at least as far as Conference Final. If I was forced to pick, I'd say Calgary, I think they can do it. They've looked extremely strong at times this year and I think with the playoff motivation, along with Keenan behind the bench, and Kipper's hot form of recent, Calgary's got what it takes. Plus we're coming in a huge underdog in that series, and I think thats what Jarome and the boys prefer.

PS: Who doesn't want to see Caps/Pens in a series? If my predictions were to hold true, we'd get to see it in round 2, I think.

LOL... the odds on the wheel is the same for every team. Just so happens she picked the favored team. She's a smart monkey.
