    Default Commute Okotoks to Downtown

    Hi All,

I'm currently out in Cochrane and commuting to work in downtown Calgary. Considering moving to Okotoks in the next year. Can anyone comment on how the drive in is on the Deerfoot? Just curious if its comparible to the drive from Cochrane, or if Deerfoot turns into a parking lot during rush hour. I probably average about 50 minutes to get in from Cochrane in the morning now.

    Thanks,
    John

depends how early you need to get to work by. From 22X to downtown it takes me about 30-40 mins, add about 15mins to that and it should be around that time frame

Even on a good day with no accidents, Deerfoot just crawls during rush hour.

On the days there are accidents (which is very common) both sides of Deerfoot a like a parking lot because of all the rubber neckers.

If it's money you're trying to save, I don't think it's worth it to give up two hours of your life a day to traffic.

Drive to Somerset Station and train it. Fastest way.

^ If you can find a parking spot....

I find it depends on the time. If I have to head downtown early (6:30) it is about 30 min from 22x. A bit later and it varies quite a bit. If I have to be at one of the offices for 9 am, I leave around 7:45. Generally, that gets me there with 15-20 min to spare.

If I remember correctly, there is a shuttle from Okotoks to Calgary downtown at specific times. I would suggest looking into that.

Okotoks will add quite a bit of time on in the winter. Why don't you look for something in the south end near the Somerset station? Or is there something about Okotoks that you are requiring?

mind you somerset station parking gets filled up by 8am, if you're lucky you'll be able to find one. I get to somerset station by 6am and 1/2 the parking lot is filled up with people constantly coming in.

With the eventual completion of the construction at Crowfoot, it'll be an easier commute from Cochrane. There's no such relief for those coming in from Okotoks.
