Default Sketchy people next to Arts Hotel Parking Lot?

My wife asked me today about all the sketchy people next to the Arts Hotel Parking lot, they seem to always just stand around there and do nothing, stretching the whole block. I just assumed its a bunch of homeless people hanging around, but maybe it is something more? What comes to my mind when I see them is those illigal immigrants that you can pick up for cash jobs ect haha.

    Anyone know?

Isn't that where homeless people wait for day work for cash? (as in contractors or construction just need a couple of extra people for a day or so, so they go down there and grab a few)

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Yes, this is "cash corner" where people get picked up for work.
I used to live only a block or so from there.
I actually admire these guys, because they are willing to stand around all day every day in hopes that someone will let them put in an honest days work.
Most of them have problems of one kind or another that prevent them from doing regular full time work.

I've used them as movers, demolition crew etc. Most are decent guys as long as you trust your gut on weeding out the shady ones.

    I'm all for that corner.

I parked my car in front of all of those guys one day during the summer (some event at stampede park).

Came back and nothing watch touched, ymmv, but I think these are some of the less sketchy characters that inhabit downtown.

I wonder if I could put a suit on one and have him go in to work for me?

Cause they are looking for work, they are criminals? Hell, I'd rather say hey to them in a nice way and walk away and my car would be safer than if I were standing next to it at a beyond meet.

    LOL

Most of them are probably ex-TransAlta employees (TransAlta's headquarters are right across the street). That company will suck the life right out of you, for sure...

No I'm not saying they're all criminals

Just a lot of people (upon first impression) are nervous to go down there, or don't understand what's going on.

I was worried about parking down there at first too.

I worked across the street from there for the summer and parked near there pretty often, they are just day workers who you can pick up for simple construction jobs. Typically harmless.
