you will have a very hard time finding this
most graphic shops in calgary don't even stock the wrap vinyl.
and suppliers don't typically have partial rolls, and if they do they are 54" by probably 12 yards (36 feet)
if you do find a place that is willing to produce this for you they will charge a great deal of money, it has to be printed, and laminated with the proper vinyl.
i did a full wrap on my car this weekend, but i did completely white
i cannot even suggest a shop to go to for this, most shops would likely charge you upwards of 500$ for this.
black is also a color that requires a lot of ink. the base vinyl is always white for wraps and is printed on since the printers dont print white color they aquire white from the base vinyl, and to print black they use all the inks combined to get the dark color (cmyk)
shops make money on labour to install items such as this, and so if you wanna do it yourself they will try to make up costs by jacking up price of materials.
you will need a clean surface, alcohol and water to clean the paint and remove any wax or anything, maybe a clay bar job depending on paint condition.
you will also need a heat gun, a plastic squeegee with one hard side and one side with a soft felt.
you will also need accurate cutting tools such as scalpel's etc
you will need a small amount of masking tape as well.
i could help you install this or install this for you if you had an indoor location where i could work.
here are fenders ive done

why dont u just paint it?
Yea don't bother buying it local, ebay has very cheap prices and you probably have to buy two rolls and combine them. You can probably get two rolls for less than $50 ish.
Buy it online and pay about $90 to a small local shop to install it if you don't have patience or experience.

i can get you some vinyl at a very competitive price let me know what you need.Originally posted by J-hop
TurboD those fenders look excellent. I have been chatting with a fellow member of another club in calgary and he said he could possibly hook me up for very cheap. I only need about 4 by 6 ft to do the roof so I'd rather not have to buy a football fields worth .
that would be the ideal solution. However this is my daily which I don't plan on keeping forever and I find you get significantly more when trying to sell a vehicle if it looks un modified. In fact the only reason I bought my jetta was because it was a family vehicle and not molested by unskilled hands lol.
I haven't touched anything mechanically on this car other than for oil changes and repairs/maintenance as I have another project car and just want to do a couple basic cosmetic mods that are easy enough to reverse down the road when I go to sell.
you don't wanna get just any old vinyl.
make sure its made for car wraps, and make sure it is laminated, and laminated with the proper laminate for car wraps.
3m makes a wrap vinyl for light contours and one for extreme curves.
the vinyl i used is made by orajet and it has an air release technology as well as stretching properties all made specifically for wrapping vehicles.
and to answer why not paint the vehicle, for me when i paid my vehicle it will cost me upwards of 6k$
until i can afford that in 3 years i want to drive a car that is all one color, right now my body panels are 3 different colors, so i wrapped my car all white, and i do some of this for a living so its good practice for me.
wow very nice work turboD, clean as hell, looks like a stock white paintjob

from the heat you might experience fading faster than lighter colors, but i dont think it would weld itself, most big names have already produced vinyl that stands up to this.
so not to worry, i think it will be fine, only thing i would say is that if it gets hot it would be easier to peel off.
I would def recommend NOT getting the color printed if you are looking for solid colors.
Instead order a cast vinyl where the color has been set into it. There are a number of products specifically designed for vehicle wraps such as 3M's 180c line. Most of these are recommended to be used with a 2mil overlaminate for durability.
i could do it,...
just buy the vynil
sigh.
Sorry to steal the OP's thunder but where can you buy vinyl rolls in Calgary?
Sweet, I've been thinking of matte black vinyl for my car.
How does this stuff hold up against rocks and such?
I can hook anyone up with vinyl wraps for their cars. PM me your vehicle specs and if you are serious I will price it out and direct you to the right place
they fair pretty well to rocks
pretty much if it can chip paint,
it can gouge vynil
sigh.
the vehicle wraps I have seen have are a 2 layer system. The specific vinyl you want covered in a top coat of a clear vinyl to help protect it.. But it still will get the odd rock chip / gouge
So has anyone found a place to buy this?
I decided a while ago that this summer I would do my mirrors and roof black on my GTI, but If I could wrap it that would be better.
Icon on 32nd Ave NE can do your roof for 200+. Well, that was the quote they gave me when I asked yesterday for my BMW.
