Default April 3-4th Stocker Wheeling Trip

    Figured I'd get this going.

We can kick around some ideas on where to go and who's all thinking of attending.

    RUN INFO

    DATE: Sunday, April 4th
TIME: Meet at 8:00am, head out around 8:30am
LOCATION: Parking lot opposite of Tim Hortons entrance in Cochrane.
RADIO FREQUENCY: FRS/GMRS Channel 2, Privacy Channel 5

    MUST HAVE ITEMS
It is strongly recommended you bring these

    1) Gas up before we go out!

    2) Recovery hooks or shackles on your truck... you need them front & back, no exceptions!

    3) bring an extra set of cloths, jacket and shoes... if you have the misfortune of falling in a mud puddle it can be very uncomfortable being wet all day! Also a nice pair of dry socks and shoes at the end of the day is a really nice thing to have!

    4) Have a full size spare tire!

    5) Bring provisions, extra food, towel, sleeping bag, toilet paper & paper towel.

    Nice to haves:
If you don't have these it is not the end of the world, but they come in handy so if you got em' bring them along if you can

    1) Recover gear, bring whatever you can... Tow straps, shackles, tree savers, shovels... but no tow straps with hooks, and no chains. They are too dangerous.

    2) GMRS/FRS Radios... there will be a few spares floating around, but it is better to bring your own.

    3) Random Tools, tire repair kits, duct & electrical tape, zip ties, wire, ect... if something does break on a truck the more random tools you have the better chance that somebody will have what we need to fix it.

    4) Compressor for airing down and airing up... You can also do it at the gas station where we meet for free.

    5) Extra fluids; gas, oil, windshield cleaner, rad fluid.

So there. Hopefully I'll have the new transfer case in by then, but I should be able to make it either way. Sunday preferable, but I can make Saturday work.

You need good tow points front and rear. And good tires, all terrains or mud terrains.

    We're going to wiaprous.

I should be in or be tagging along. If that jeep has room for me that is.

I think the usual time is the smittys in cochrane at 9AM for a 9:30 departure.

I know it seems early but it maximises our day light hours. Smittys is closed so if you want timmies (which is nearly next to it) than get there a little early as its always packed.

I recommend to pickup a tow strap from princess auto too. Maybe a 30foot x 2 inch. Im going to see if I can pick up an ARB tire deflater before the weekend.

I think we normally do the smitty's in Conchrane it's a pretty good meeting spot. If people get there early they can even have breakfast.

Smittys is closed for reno's, or at least it has been for a very long time.

Yeah, they're pretty reasonably priced. I just picked up the 30ft/3" one for $55 as the loop just fits inside a 2" receiver so you can just run the hitch pin through it and use the bare hitch as the rear recovery point.

It's also recommended to have a full-size spare. If you wreck a tire on the trail, you're not going to have fun trying to get out on a donut spare.

You could be like me and forget the key a home and break a bead on the trail.

I'm in for sure now. Have my new to me 97 Jeep... Almost a step back from a 2002 Duramax but I want a trail beater not a toy hauler.

Meeting at the Timmies sounds good. If we are there for 9am it give everyone time to stock up on coffee and hit the road at 9:30.

Alright, for the people that have not been out before. Before you think of heading out you need to be prepared.

-Bring 4 Liters of Water (Drinking, washing hands etc)
    -Bring Extra Fuel
-Extra food (you never know what can happen)
-Warm Camping gear (sleeping bags, tents, EXTRA DRY CLOTHING
    -Toilet Paper
    -Matches
-Tow Strap at least a 25,000lb straps with LOOPED ends, NO HOOKS!
-Tow Points FRONT and REAR!! I cannot stress this enough, if your vehicle gets stuck and there's no where to pull you're fucked.
-Clevis shackles with a 3/4inch pin.
-Hitch recovery reciever with clevis shackle YOU NEED THIS Modern Motors and National 4WD has these.
    -FRS Radios
    -Tire Plug kit
-Air Compressor if you have one.
-Extra fluids, oil, brake, coolant etc.
    -Shovel
-A willingness to learn along with a great attitude
    -Your truck

If anyone else has other items or points to add, please do so. If you don't have the essentials please refer to the Hitch recovery items, strap, clevis I don't recommend you going. If there's no place to pull you from, you could be in for a long night or even a damaged vehicle.
