I'm surprised that there's NO jail, I feel like a short jail term might go a long way in the rehabilitation of what is obviously a damaged individual
That's a lot of relatively large transactions over a long period of time. Wouldn't they notice even one of these didn't even out?Earlier, Crown prosecutor Vicky Faulkner told court that Batke, 44, made 26 separate transactions of between $5,000 and $20,000 between Sept. 26, 2006, and March 5, 2009, to acquire small bills for the store's float.
I guess she was the accounts payable clerk but there had to be someone else involved in finances that noticed it wasn't coming up right.

I actually agree here. The judge says he doesn't want to excuse the embezzlement because of her addiction, etc. but by not handing down any sort of significant punishment, that's exactly what he's done.
Granted, having to pay back $200k is going to be long and cumbersome but she basically got off the hook because her life sucked. Her lawyers deserve a bonus for this one.
