    Woohoo, more shitty stolen news!

Police charge driver after Thursday’s early morning chase through N.E. Calgary

A strange police chase that featured fleeing from a roadside traffic stop in Chestermere, driving at posted speed limits and observing all rules of the road while refusing to pull over for police, and finishing with an ill-advised off-road maneuver that ended at the bottom of a ravine, has netted the driver several criminal charges.
Van Duong, 28, of Calgary is charged with one count each of mischief to property, fleeing from police, dangerous driving, and two counts of breach of recognizance. Police say alcohol was a factor in the driver’s bizarre behavior.

On Thursday around 2 a.m. the Chestermere RCMP was conducting a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver. While the driver was undergoing a roadside test in the police vehicle, the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and fled towards Calgary.

The CPS was alerted to the incident and later observed a 2008 Acura MDX inside the city limits headed south on 36 Street and 16 Avenue N.E. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver sped off. Calgary Police Service members then terminated any other attempt to stop the vehicle.

A short time later, police spotted the vehicle in a parking lot at 26 Street and 22 Avenue S.E. The parking lot is adjacent to a steep embankment. As police units entered the parking lot, the driver accelerated and drove the vehicle over a parking stall curb, through a wooden cable fence and then down the embankment into the ravine below.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He has since been released.

Members of the Calgary Police Service Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Unit, Traffic Response Unit and District 5 continue to investigate the incident, say police.
