Cool Lamborghini Aventador to replace Veyron S.S. as fastest car

    http://www.rushlane.com/lamborghini-...d-1218793.html

Another source, Top Gear, while maybe not 'scientific' it was just on there recently! Anyone else catch it?

    AVENTADOR IS BEAUTIFUL

To paraphrase Richard Hammond from that episode: Lamborghini's usual priorities are top speed 1st, acceleration 2nd, and handling 3rd. But with the Aventador Lamborghini refocused their priorities in the opposite order as #3 top speed, #2 acceleration, and #1 handling.

At the Top Gear Test Track here's how the Aventador did:

    3rd priority: Top speed = 217 mph
    2nd priority: Acceleration = 0-60 in 2.9 sec.
    1st priority: Handling = Power Lap time = 1:16.5.

    Top Gear Power Lap ranking:
    #1. 1:15.1 - Ariel Atom V8 500
    #2. 1:16.2 - McLaren MP4-12C
    #3. 1:16.5 - Lamborghini Aventador
    #4. 1:16.8 - Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Lamborghini, I say that's mission accomplished.

    I love it.
Now Ferrari has to fight back with something better than the very cool, but mostly lost 599 GTO. They need a proper Enzo replacement that doesn't weigh 4000lbs.

    LOL,

No offence to you se7en, Lamborghini only became a decent super car company since Audi took over them. Before this they were nothing more than dramatic hyper car company who built expensive, unreliable POS's.

fairly rare that you see Countach's, Diablo's still on the road...

uh, how is Ferrari (or any other Italian supercar company) any better? They've been building overpriced pieces of shit for decdes too... What does reliability have to do with lambo being a true supercar or not? When was the last time you saw a 300SL, 2000GT, F50, etc etc on the road?

thy're not, early model Italian cars were POS's all around.

Up to the 360's and newer, Ferrari's were also little more than kit cars, with hand built everything, fiberglass body parts, and hardware store nuts and bolts.

I remember working on a pair of 348s, each one was slightly different in its construction; For example, one had alignment problems with the main engine carriage and the right rear strut tower mount, while the other one did not. (I had a PIA time dropping the power train to prep it for a service). One other had the battery mounted in the rear, while the first one had it mounted in the front fender. You couldn't swap parts between the two, and they were about 4 months apart in production dates.

It's things like this that sometimes make the average Honda have better build quality than some super cars.

You are really going to pull out the Honda reliability card in a Lamborghini thread?

Back on topic I read an article on the car and a lot of work went into reducing weight and improving handling. Pretty amazing car.

Supercars will never be as reliable as volume production car as robots are not as widely used.

But who cares about reliability of supercars anyway?

not reliability... build quality... fit and finish of materials..

longevity, as you guys are pointing out is indeed a bit silly..

Impressed by the tech in the car. Pushrod suspension is going to have to be the future. I love when F1 tech gets trickled down to roads cars 5-10 years down the line. Truly a driver of road car R&D. Also like how they kept the single clutch system, you can see the pilots driving the car are really pushed back in their seat between shifts. A worthwhile experience.

Don't even know why Honda reliability is being thrown in this thread but c'est la vie.

Pushrod suspension has been used in street cars for at least 15 years? F1 suspension is miles away from anything in any street car.

Doesn't the Audi RS4 use some kind of horizontal or pushrod suspension as well?

Wasn't the Zonda R the fastest, but not street legal so they removed it from the list?
