I used to work in the area about 5 years ago so I know how sketchy it was back then. Has anything improved? I'm looking at a place in Orange Lofts, but the fact that it's on the ground level has me a little bit concerned.

Its still the east village...
But there was news about another major revamp for that area.
I remember reading about a development for a walking area much like Eau Claire bicycle path, but intended more for street performers and cafes.
I think in time it will be a good investment. although that area is already very high priced
Great time to buy into the area given what's planned there. I know people who've lived in the Orange lofts and say it's fine around there. Some interesting people around but doesn't necessarily make it sketchy.
Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
will always be a sketchy area imo

I heard they're trying to chase all the hookers out of that area.
But they're also doing some good stuff, too.

The seedy element is always going to find a home in Calgary, whether they are wanted in that area or not.
As I believe Klein said...give them all a bus ticket to Vancouver. Just kidding I love Vancouver.

Yeah, if the place wasn't on the ground floor I wouldn't be as concerned.
After the st. louis closed it has been pretty quiet. A unit on the ground floor is money. crazy hard to get, ground floor units are zoned residential and commercial. Once the area cleans up those ground units will go for 18-19/sqft lease rate.

bumping a super old thread...
anyone actually live at Orange? How is it in the summer when it gets super hot upstairs in the bed area? specially in the summer?
thanks,
J
The whole east village revamp will make that area more desirable in the next 5 years I feel, not much to add about orange lofts considering I work with original poster.
Its a great building and location.
During the summer it does get warm in the units though, that would be the only complaint I have. A few people have installed portable AC Units which help to mitigate that problem (I hope to as well). The installed Fans really help allot. Try to get a North Unit, a south facing unit may be uncomfortable.
