Anybody following this story? Doesn't seem to be getting much traction in the media, but it really blows my mind how they are getting away with obvious market manipulation to the tune of ten million dollars. Shutting down all coal production plants four days in a row right as peak demand hits, all while conspiring to keep prices artificially high by flooding the export market.

I'm seriously considering it, and I'm not joking. This is out and out theft.

No, they've admitted to wrongdoing. It has already been proven by the MSA.

I don't know, doesn't sound right. I'm pretty sure some other group pressured them into doing it.

Stealing millions from a single person or entity gets you jail time. Steal millions by defrauding millions of people and no one cares.

its almost like the scale amd scope of the crime these days is too big for people to comprehend so they chose to ignore it.

Wish i could set up for a pellet furnace and water heater....one day maybe. Im sure my dream is the same as everybody's, to get off the grid and tell these big energy companies to fuck off.

I know, still need electricity...and solar setup is A FORTUNE, but one less thing on the grid would be nice.

yes they made millions and got a slap on the wrist fine. It's so irritating. The Enmax solar panels are a joke.

It is seriously annoying the admin fees we pay are insane, everything about it makes me want to scream. But really what can we do?

I came thru northern ontario a month ago and there were small communities there with large solar panels at each house.

There must have been some gov't program to install them, as the houses were pretty low/avg quality, but then they had 20x20' solar panel grids, that may have even been sun tracking.. I should have stopped and asked what the deal was..

As I say in every power thread. Stop complaining about the companies. Thank the government. This is what de-regulation looks like.

You can not win against an electrical provider. Impossible.

They generate at <2 cents and sell to you at 8+> cents per kwh. Even if you setup a solar panel on every inch of your residential city lot, you probably would not have enough to run a fridge and a microwave.

So get used to bending over.

At our new acreage, we are going with a sustainable system for both hot water and electricity. Boiling hot water that heats the house via solar panels and can power a shower and a sink at the same time, plus panels for electricity, will cost a couple thousand more than a conventional system. Obviously for resale, you still tie in to natural gas and electricity for a backup, but my eyes have been opened!

    Edit-
AKA, Zen0ps doesn't know what he is talking about. In Red Deer there are plenty of examples of places that use zero electricity or natural gas for heat even in the middle of winter.

A refridgerator and microwave usually require electricity. High draw appliances that usually require 1500 watts apiece or so.

In order to do that, you *must* have a collection system (lead acid batteries or the like) which is arguably much worse for the environment than just burning very clean and abundant natural gas. Digging up the metal to use in a battery is usually extremely dirty.

To live in a modern world, you cannot do without electricity - and a week snowstorm with no sun in the middle of winter means absolutely zero chance of living a "normal" life without mass generated electricity.

I never said anything about general heating and/or cooling. Solar can be useful when stored with water and circulated.

You peeps are way too much like Rob Anders - read whatever you want into things.

Supplemental - but never completely off grid.

Yes Ontario has incentives and even pays you if you put power into the grid
