Default New P&S camera for <$100

My old point and shoot camera died when it was drowned by a rogue wave in hawaii and I'm in need of a new one.

I still have a Canon T2i for shooting most things but I'd like to have another smaller camera around to fit into my pocket and use when I don't want to lug around the DSLR.

I used to have an older Canon powershot A series, possibly an A700, I'm not exactly sure.

What I'm looking for is something with a decent zoom, over 5x and small enough to fit into my pocket.

I like finepix XP series. Something that survive many excursions and has no problem being drowned.

But I really doubt they will be under $100, even on sale. Got my XP60 for $140.

for new $100, you're better off with your iphone/android phone.

you'll have to spend around $300 for a decent one.
if you want a rugged/waterproof one, look for:
    Nikon AW110
    Panasonic TS5

or for around $150, you might be able to find a used Canon S100 or S110 or a Panasonic TS3 or TS4

How does the Canon PowerShot ELPH 330 HS in kobe tai's link compare with the Canon PowerShot ELPH 530 HS in msommers?

Is shipping expensive from BH Photo? I've never ordered from there before.

How good/bad are refurb cameras? Specifically one like this: https://www.thecamerastore.com/mainp...00-refurbished

that 550 is touch screen and 12x zoom. For $99 its a better deal but not sure how much it will be after shipping etc

I would also recommend the Canon ELPH 330 HS. The ELPH 530 HS can be really annoying to use because it is all touchscreen.

Shipping is $8.80 from bhphoto, are there customs and other fees on top of that? They ship purolator ground to Canada. From past experience, ground shipping from US usually means additional fees on top of shipping from when you receive the items.

Review sites seem to make touchscreen a positive feature. What makes the functionality more annoying than traditional buttons on the back?

Thanks for all of the input so far, great information.

The link I gave you has an assortment of P&S cameras for <$100. I don't think you'll be getting anything great but they'll work!

B&H shipping CAN include customs/brokerage/taxes if you select that additional option. The $8.80 I suspect is shipping only, which is pretty fair actually.

I just ordered this, was $124 all in.

Time to retire my 7 year old powershot and start using it for motorsports video where it might get smashed.

Some $47-$99 cameras here if you don't mind a refurb:

    http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?o...hoot%20Cameras

If the smallest camera possible is attractive to you, have a look at the Nikon S01. Not amazing but it's the smallest P&S you can buy pretty much. And it's $47 haha, so basically disposable.

Otherwise I would just buy a ~$100-120 Canon Elph and be done with it.

There are no stand-out P&S cameras in the $100 range, they are all very average and basically the same.

I don't want to suggest something too far our of your price range but I would recommend this. I think its good value for what your getting and still pocketable.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. I ended up ordering the Canon ELPH 530 HS.

The physical size, zoom, video capabilities and sensor are all a big upgrade from my old Powershot and at $135ish all in after shipping/taxes/duty/currency exchange wasn't far out of my price range.

You can put items into a shopping cart on our site and tell the site where they'd be shipped to and our site will calculate shipping fees with no obligation to you. For shipping to Canada we recommend Purolator which is speedy and not expensive. If you also choose "B&H customs clearance" we'll calculate all the cross-border fees and include them with the total you'll pay us.

A camera that's been refurbished by the authorized distributor should be indistinguishable from brand new. I cannot speak about store-refurbished cameras since we don't to any of that ourselves.
