Just hit the store and pick up a Korg tuner. They're like $30 and mine has lasted 10 years probably. Tuner/metronome is a good idea.

Is that what I should look for? I know absolutely nothing about any of this, haha. What stores have them?
if it's for an acoustic you could always download something on your android/iphone. i've never used one but people say it works.
I have a Korg TM-40 which is probably discontinued by now but maybe eBay or something? $80 on a tuner is insane IMO.

Nothing is better than the boss tuner pedal nothing
A Ferrari is a high maintenance chick, you spend money regardless of what you do with her. You can baby the C63, or slap on all seasons, and you won't be spending anything but yearly maintenance. Of course that's like dating a stripper and refusing to fuck her, which would make you gay.

Get a Snark clip-on. Dirt cheap and quite accurate. Mine checks out perfect compared to my Strobo-tuner.
Works on acoustic or electric. Very convenient.
Which model? The Tu-3 is pretty good.Originally posted by bourge73

There are a number of superb tuners out there like the Korg Pitchblack, the Peterson Strobo-stomp and the turbo-tuner etc.
But hard to beat the bang-for-the-buck of the Snarks.

Ya, I built some crazy ass shit with Lego as a kid. I had a thing for AMC Eagle AWD's as a kid for some bizarre reason, so I spent a lot of time going to the library and reading up on how AWD works in that car. I even hitchhiked to the library once cuz my parents were too lazy to drive me haha. Ya, I'm a nerd.
I have been using my phone.
My acoustic has a built-in one. I know that they are not the most accurate but I'm still learning so it will do for now.
Nice I bought a guitar this week as well. I was recommended to just use a phone app which was simple to use. Not sure if its accurate though.
I got a brand new Yahama FG700 for $199. Heard its a good starter guitar.
I use the tic electronics polytune, miles better, you can tune all the strings with a strum or two.Originally posted by bourge73

+1 for snark, $15 and it is dead easy to use
sig deleted by moderator, because they are useless
Phones pick up a lot of noise, so tuner apps that rely on the sound are usually only 50% accurate. They also can't differentiate between the harmonic partials, so even when you're tuning in E it might show a different note, which will confuse the hell out of a noob.
Honestly, I would get a tuner app that just plays the notes, and practice tuning by ear. It's great practice for hearing the "notes" going forward, and helps your playing in the future. At some point, you need to be able to pick up a guitar, play it, and know approx. how out of tune it is. Plus those apps are pretty much all free.

Yeah, when using the phone app, it jumps all over the place sometimes. I tried tuning mine by ear after I replaced the strings last time, I was off by a whole note lol. I just did the low-e first and finished the rest from there.
Basically the same one I got except I got it used off Kijiji for $60 bucks. So far super frustrated, my fingers hurt, and my fingers always seem to hit the little strings and fuck it all up. Haha.Originally posted by Teknix

Not to worry, after that's gone, you'll get GAS. (guitar acquisition syndrome)
Mine seemed to calm down at 6 guitars, but still flares up now and then.
Check the speed of the Turbo-Tuner towards the end, leaves the Strobo-Stomp in the dust.
I was 30 guitars deep, plus 6 amps, and a few dozen pedalsOriginally posted by The_Penguin

Had to sell a couple guitars due to the size of the new place I'm moving to. I think if I can move a couple more I will be below 25
