got the new pc up and running with blur iris. got all the cat6 ran and laptop gets internet at every drop. switch is all wired and neat. cameras are waiting to be plugged in. but first i have to learn (google) how to setup all this network stuff correctly.
i started off correct right?
Shaw modem pass thru -->wireless router-->switch. then plugged into the switch are 6POE cameras. 12 drops for rooms in the house. and last would be the security PC? so basically everything is plugged into the 24 port switch

Sounds right. ideally the Shaw modem is in bridge mode, if it has that option, and not running dhcp. Play with direct to disk in blueiris, it cuts way down on your processor usage and isn't enabled by default.
ok so i got everything up and running with a hitch
this pc i built runs at 100% with 3 cameras and with 4 it crashes blue iris.
but with my few year old desktop only runs at 20% or less with the 4 cameras.
new security pc
3.6ghz
4gb ram
win7 32 bit
Old desktop
3.4ghz
8gb ram
win 7 64 bit
Your "old" i7 is a lot more powerful than your "new" AMD chip.Originally posted by blairtruck

i7 2600K has 4 cores & 8 threads... the A6 5400k is only a dual core (2 threads).
Are your cameras set on the highest resolution? Dial it down and see how that works. Then decide if it worth it to upgrade the CPU.

damn i figured when people said recycle an old computer that a new cpu would suffice. wish i had known. i would have just used the pc i had sitting here and not got a dedicated comp.Originally posted by ipeefreely

I've never used the software... I was just pointing out the difference in the hardware... I'd wait Zorac response.
He might be able to tell you how to setup the setting etc...
He mentioned direct drive write, are you doing that?

its like 16% vs 100%.
but having them running now on the old pc, i really like them, the quality seems to be great at 1080p settings. and knowing whats going on in my alley is what was needed.
just got to get this cpu figured out on the dedicated system. does 64bit vs 32bit win 7 make a difference?
Are you using a lot of ram? Is hikvision or blue iris x64? Otherwise it won't make a difference...Originally posted by blairtruck

Post a screen shot of the task manager.
I think you might need a lot of CPU power to capture all those cameras @ 1080p but that's just a guess... or you might be also limited by your HDD.
