    Default Small house, big garage

So I've been renting for quite some time now and it's time to transfer into home ownership. Being a pretty serious car enthusiast, I'd like to have a larger garage. I don't much care about the house as long as it's in decent condition and isn't going to cost a shitload of money down the road.

I figure that I'm not really alone in this kind of desire in the city, there's got to be some other people out there that have done the same.

Has anyone seen places like this come up? I'm thinking something like a 2br 2bath place with a 2+oversized garage and extra parking space. Don't much care about the location as long as it's not the boonies or ghetto.

Suggestions on how to look for these places other than just slogging thru real estate listings?

If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

We rented in Glenbrook on an R2 lot. .. neighbor had the and tiny old 800ish square foot bungalow but had a HUGE custom garage in the back to run his car stereo business. .

I have seen some places in the past that have an attached garage, and an alley behind the house. You may be able to find a small bungalow like this and it gives you the potential to build a detached shop/garage in the back as well. In some cases the homeowners have already done that for you!

Not sure of your budget, but here are a few houses that could be decent and have triple detached garages at different price points throughout the city, (yes some are a bit ghetto).

We had a similar issue. Youre better off buying in an older area with a large lot/small house and build a massive garage (30,000+$) on the lot. Hope you can have alley access.

Budget is probably 425k max with a suite, less without a suite, this will by my first house. I don't mind having a place to put a bunch of sweat equity into, but don't want something that's falling to pieces.

By ghetto I mean like the middle of forest lawn right around 17th ave. I've been looking at some places in erin woods, where I've lived before and quite liked it.

I'm in Fairview, and have a 3 car alley garage (800 sq.ft), plus "rv parking" beside that.

Awhile ago I set up to be on a mailing list with Jordan for 3+ garages under $650g, I'm sure he can do the same for you.

You may consider this option boonie but in legacy they are putting in starter homes with front attached garages but they are land homes so you can put a garage in the back. That would mean you would have 3 parking spots. Wouldn't be a huge garage in the back but you can keep stuff in the 1 car as well. I believe they are starting in the low 400s. You can then build the double garage in the back when you can afford it.

425k budget is going to be tight with double attached.

Shane is building a few of them if you go here: http://www.shanehomes.com/shane/Homes/Models

You can see a few of the single attached garage floor plans.

My boyfriend and I just bought something that fits this description perfectly (although quite a different budget). We told Jordan what we were looking for, and he found the perfect house for us. Small house (that had been updated recently), HUGE yard, and a decently large garage. I highly recommend getting in touch with him and/or signing up for one of his mailing lists. You wont regret it!
