Everyone who I have talked to who has used the Samsung VR has said it was WAY better than they had ever imagined. If the OR is even better it's going to be pretty sweet. That exchange rate though, seems to find a way to disappoint me every single day $850 F that.

What is the resolution of this thing? Since it's like 1" from your eyes it would be super annoying if you could see pixels. You get a bit of the screen door effect even with the GS6 in a Samsung VR setup.

not a matter of if, but when.

Anyone watch porn on the Samsung Gear VR yet?
Quick google search shows that it's been available for most of 2015 already.

My brother got the oculus beta and I like to think that my video card was good enough in my pc to run it (as it did run really really shitty performance on a macbook pro) but it would not even initialize on my computer.

Video Output Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
USB Ports 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
OS Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer

Oculus did an AMA on reddit yesterday, I actually have a lot more respect for the product after reading it. Apparently the technology is a bargain at the price, but it's still expensive.

$914 shipped to me... damn. I pre-ordered, but will probably cancel. Not enough games yet anyway. Maybe once it hits retail stores here, it'll drop the price to a reasonable amount!

HTC Vive is also coming out soon too. So will have to see how that compares to the oculus.

If you're a resolution whore, you'll hate it. It's fairly low res, and you're looking through the world through a screen door.

If any of you are going to the flames game, they have an OR demo for the Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep cars by the truck that you can try out. It's a DK2 model, so slightly less resolution.

    Sony already said it's wrong.

I can understand if it comes with a PS4 and all the accessories. But that won't fly for pricing as a consumer electronic.

    DK1: 640x800/eye
    DK2: 960x1080/eye
    Release: 1080x1200/eye

If you have a QHD phone with Google cardboard, that's the resolution the rift will be close to. It's ok but you will still see the pixels.

But DK1 was horrible. It's like playing games from the 90s again.

The issue is how much GPU power needed to do 2 FHD renders in real time. Sony already squeeze 4K screen into 5.5", so display tech is there. GPU is the bottleneck and it may be a few years before we can get higher resolution per eye.

Interesting. I wonder if that's something you can get used to, kind of like not noticing the rim of your glasses in your peripheral unless you're thinking about it. I'm very curious to try one.

Do you remember staring at CRT TV from 5 ft away? It's like that for DK1.

Then I tried Google Cardboard on a 1080p 5.5" phone (960x1080), it's much better but you will see pixel gaps due to the lens distortion.

The main issue for me is latency. They say they have reduced it down to about 18 milliseconds.

It took me a couple of years to get used to CFL/LCD screens which were all 60hz coming off of CRT monitors at 85hz (desktop) and 100 to 120hz gaming.

The responsiveness lag feels like three beer sluggishness to me, and that's about as descriptive as it gets.

Its weird, because its like I can feel the difference between memory that is CAS 9 or CAS 12 in a computer system. Techically, the exact same GB/sec go through, but one is more responsive. Mouse movement always felt less responsive in windows vista/7/8 than XP too.
