What's a good cheap one that people recommend? As much as I'd love to get another Blackvue and go full bore, they're a little pricey from what I can see.

I'm still happy with the old faithful G1WC.
My G1WC has been working flawless for the past 3-4 years. No issues.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.
There are many sub-$100 dash cams on Amazon (including th G1WC) that have hundreds of near perfect reviews. I would start there and you have 30 days to return it if you don't like it.

If you're handy with a soldering iron and want to solder in an RTC go G1WS, my sister uses this without an RTC as she drives her car everyday
they have them for $30 on amazon right now

otherwise go for the YI

Haven't noticed. Could it be the card? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
LOL, Amazon reviews are useless for Chinese sellers. If you give a mediocre or bad review, they bribe you until you change it. I'm being hounded weekly because of a 3 star review I gave of a cheap shitty Bluetooth mouse. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Viofo A119 has been great for me..
Do you honestly think every Anker, Aukey, Yi, etc. etc. item has all fake reviews? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I have about 20 multi-item orders per month from Amazon, I literally buy everything from them. All kinds of products and sellers, I don't discriminate. I don't doubt it happens occasionally but I have never once been asked for a fake review and I have left a lot of mediocre or 1-star reviews. Based on my experience anyway, I don't believe it happens to the extent you are suggesting when some items from Chinese sellers have hundreds, sometimes thousands, of positive reviews. Sometimes a product is just good - I've yet to be let down by something that has a high number of positive reviews.
Here are some Chinese sellers, do you honestly think they hound thousands of people into leaving 5 star reviews?

I have been offered refunds if I remove poor reviews...
I have been happy with my Thinkware F50. Decent quality for $99, nice and compact too which I like, similar size to BlackVue.
A118/A119 if you can get it on sale. I've run an A118C in my car and in the girlfriends for a couple years, both were bought in the ~$60 range on a sale. Great low profile cameras. I'd hate having any of these suction cupped ones on my windshield.
the voifo 119s is good, amazon prime for $130, will be here for xmasThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I tested the Voifo A129 Dashcam this week, and put it up side by side against my Blackvue DR900S (4K). I believe this is the first 2 channel Voifo (front/ rear). Setup is quite easy (you will need an extra fuse tap and some modifying to hard wire though)

I'll post some example footage by this weekend here in this thread and you can see some quality, and I'll show some of the same trip of my DR900S.

Written TL;DR (BUT TO BE HONEST) is it's awesome, super awesome, like personally I would go with a Voifo cam over a really expensive cam ($600+) just based on my personal budgets. We used a CPL Filter on it too which made it even nicer. I haven't looked close at all the footage yet but from what I could see on the phone app viewer it was very impressive
That being said, I think it's like $250 (but that's because you get 2 cameras, 1 for the rear). If you just want front, I'd go A119. I've never owned one but I've just seen lots of footage of it and it's really good for the price.
