It looks attractive for $57K US .. but with exchange rate today, plus duty and tax, will be $95K cad, plus shipping, and whatever need to do to import it, we are talking $100K now .. *_*

Agree .. The Macan Turbo may be more expensive (with options) but better resale value, (good for Cash buyer) and just a touch slower ..This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Any other option is going to be down on power by comparison. An SQ5 could get you close with some aftermarket stuff. Personally I'd be identifying if I really need that budget of an SUV? If he can step up to the GLE63 he is getting a way nicer vehicle. And also, the comparable options to cross shop jumps up too.
I don't blame him for being done with BMW. So am I. I am a 100% convert to Merc now.
GLE63 for sure, but I think you can only get the S in that fugly coupe thing.
Does the new GLE even come in a 63 AMG yet?
Actually I swear I just read something about a new electrifies GLE63 today.

I'm not aware of them ever cancelling the regular GLE63? Maybe they don't have it out for 2020MY yet? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Here is Mercedes website showing the 2019
https://www.mercedes-benz.ca/en/vehi...e/suv/gle63w4s
Edit- Looks like it is just the GLE53 with that new Straight 6 turbo engine now. 430hp stock, I'm sure a tune would bump that over 500hp no problem.

The GLE just got a full refresh. Completely new vehicle. Usually takes a while for a new full on AMG to come around.
Not talking about the 53, the new 63S that showcased in the last week has a small electric engine to boost performance.

Anyways for me it’s anything but the GLC, not sure why I have such an irrational aversion to them. The new GLE is pretty sweet actually, thinking of getting either a 43 or non AMG for the wife when her lease is up in a couple years.

It's more of a "low key flex" option compared to the European options.
I like neat cars.

Is a GLC a truck? What's up with the location change?
Anyways. Talking to my buddy, he mentioned what @killramos said about the interior looking....well, not the freshest. Bonus for the GLE is its cheaper. Little less power, but is the EQ boost the electric motor @rage2 has spoke highly about? No performance seat options though?

I love the EQ boost setup. Even with only 21hp it manages to eliminate lag off the line. The 63 doesn’t have the e turbo tho, which is interesting. I wonder if it’s because they don’t have one big enough for the 4.0L V8.
The new GLE is damn nice. 7 seat config, rear seats are electronically reclinable and adjustable. If you are catering to rear passengers, it’s super comfy. The GLE63 with eq boost won’t be here till December at the earliest.

GLC is solidly a car. Lol. It’s a lifted C.

Yup. The GLC300 loaner I had drove just like a C300. I haven’t drive a GLC63 but I figure it’d be pretty much what a 4matic c63 would be like. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

If I were him, I'd be comparing to an Audi RS6. There are many who prefer that "up-high" seating placement that an SUV provides though.

The RS6 is in a different price bracket (roughly 50% more than the GLC) and will be comparatively hard to get... Not really a reasonable cross-shop...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I resisted SUV but thought I gave GLC43 a test drive before I order a C43 Wagon. I was wrong. The difference is only tiny bit at the limits, otherwise it's 95% of C43. Center of gravity is definitely higher for a SUV, 3.2" more but that's about it. I am also sick of scraping the bottom in winter living in a Cul-de-sac. So I gave up daily on a sport sedan and joined the "SUV" masses. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
GLC isn't a truck. The only "truck" in MB line up is G wagon. Everything is just jacked up version of the sedan.
Performance Seat isn't available on GLE53 but it is on GLC43. But obviously, GLE got more updated interior. Next gen GLC will not get GLE's interior either, they will go straight to the new S class setup and back to 2 separate screens instead of 2 continuous horizonal screens.
GLE63 was definitely announced as 2021 model. And there is definitely S variants for both SUV and Coupe. I would assume that EU is going going tight on emission, they should be more widely available in NA.

Do any of the “E”s offer performance seats?
It’s more of a small/sports car thing
Also worth noting that While the GLC is heavily based on the C class, the GLE and GLS have their own platform which makes them much more “truckish”. They have a dedicated large SUV unibody platform.
There is a massive difference between GLE and GLC. Not as much of a difference between GLE and GLS.
At least that’s my understanding.

If he goes for a GLC, I'm fairly confident it will be the 63. He is firmly in the camp of SUV over a car. I know they aren't trucks, I was asking due to the thread being moved to "trucks, 4x4 and offroading" section. None of Witch apply. Thought it is a odd place for it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Only reason he may go for the GLE, is for the newer looking interior. It will be cheaper too. I'm sure the GLE 53 will be enough power, but we will drive them to see. It's going to be interesting to see what way he goes. Either way, I'm jacked about going with him to look at all these cars out of my price range. Must be nice to buy outright whatever he decides on.
Edit: what are the chances of driving the GLE 53 and the GLC 63? Do they have demos of the performance versions? Never really shopped for new vehicles, especially of this caliber.

GLE53 definitely won’t have enough power. It’s barely enough in my E coupe, and that’s 800lbs lighter.

From a platform perspective there are only 4 from MB, not sure if this is still the case. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

No Performance Seats option on GLE53 and none of the official shots for GLE63 are paired with Performance Seats either.
