    Default Voltage Regulator??

Where is the Voltage Regulator on a Nissan Pathfinder located? Is it on the alternator? Because it charges well over 18 volts (says 18 on voltmeter). My headlight bulbs seem to burn out often, and high beam sometimes works. So could that be part of the problem? Also I am suspecting a short in the wiring, so I will look at that also.

Not sure about your light problems, as I hate electrical work...BUT...yes your Voltage Regulator is located inside your Alt...so you will have to swap out the entire Alt, OR, get it rebuilt...Candian Alternators and Starters, is one place to check out...

you can purchase aftermarket voltage regulators from a industrial supply store like acklands or greggs.... check to see if yours is external from the factory though

Well here is a little update. I went to the dealer, and they said the Voltage Regulator is behind the guage cluster. I talked to the service writer and he said that if it was the regulator that had failed, my battery would be super hot due to overcharging. So i will go to PYP tommorow, and take the alternator and the regulator and swap them. Hopefully it'll solve the problem! Thanks guys!

BTW, ninespeed, how do you tell if it is external or internal? Might sound like a dumb question but I have no idea.....

lots of OBDII cars have the alternator field current controlled by the fuel injection ecu. makes putting in standalone in a pain
