A good load leveler on an engine hoist will get it into the proper orientation nicely

I think they had to replace the 1st gear synchro.

I know it had troubles getting into first.

Get the splines on the shaft and give it a couple hard boots. It will pop right in.

the "shaft" must be lined up with the hole, then ram the fucker home like your doing a chick with a dick and it turns you on but you dont want to admit it. but dont force anything, you can be insert it with strength, and still be gentle.

Without an alignment tool it will be difficult.
