Microsoft had taken the unusual step of paying Alex Garland, the writer of the horror film "28 Days Later" and a Creative Artists client, about $1 million to write a script faithful to the "Halo" universe. ??

Seems to me like they are going to mess it up.

Thats to bad..... Unfortunalty movies based on video games are destined to bomb at the box office (The Rock staring in DOOM?!? Common people, think). This is to bad, because the Halo franchise doesnt deserve to be bastardized in a movie....

I think Halo could be done well. RPG games like Final Fantasy are too out of the oridnary for normal people to relate to because the fighting methods arn't conventional at all. This spell does 75 damage and takes up 5 mana points? Ok pointdexter

Halo, however, is pretty straight forward: guns get shot and things die. Ammo runs out, you can't shoot. Straight forward as hell.

I think it has the potential to be very successful. Whether or not they do it is an entirely different matter.

Well, when you look at movies such as Alone In The Dark, Tomb Raider, Wing Comander and probably the upcomming Doom, (all of which are running/flying around and shooting games) its hard to get your hopes up....

^ But Tomb Raider did extremely well. Wing Commander was an obscure video game (I loved Wing Commander III back in '95!). Alone In The Dark? No one's even heard of that one.

Halo broke sales records, everyone knows what it is, it'll have a huge budget... I think it has a good chance.

the only reason tomb raider did so well is because of Angelina Jolie, other then that the movie was crap!

The great thing about master cheif is that since he never shows his face any actor could play him and he could be voiced by the same guy as the game. Like Super_Geo said an action game could translate well to an action movie. The Resident Evil movies made money and they weren't that great. As long as they don't try to make it "kid friendly" and include gratituous violence & gore the movie could fly. The name Halo is so big now that even non-gamers are aware of it and if the movie has a good advertising campaign I'm sure that it could be profitable.
