    Default Haskayne 3rd year courses

    Hello

I'll be starting in Haskayne in September, 3rd year.

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on which 317 courses to take and when. Which courses are easier than others... Which to pair together and which to avoid together at all cost.

    Thanks
    d

    Alright.
I JUST did this so dont take my full word for it

But you arent suppose to take MKGT with either ACCT or FNCE. You probably wouldnt want MKGT with MGIS either since the group project can take a while (depending on how good you are with Microsoft Access).

Ive only taken ACCT, FNCE, MGIS, MGST. Accounting and Finance are supposedly the harder ones. For accounting I would suggest keeping up with the practice problems.

I still have to take HROD, MKGT, and OPMA. How are these courses for people?

I took FNCE, MGIS and OPMA in one semester and it was pretty intense. Remember that FNCE is like 2 courses if you want to get your C- or whatever....very tough.

it really depends how motivated you are.

MKTG + FNCE = is hard, but not impossible. I've done it, people have done it, and done fine.

    Best layouts for 317's

    Fall
    FNCE
    HROD
    OPMA

    Winter
    ACCT
    MGIS
    MGST

Depending on your major, if you are FNCE or ACCT major, take the 317 in the fall semester so you can take a senior ACCT or FNCE course in the winter.

I'm not too sure if i forgot a course.... i'm sure someone will say something... oh well

^ first 20 courses are "pre management"

first 2 years are mostly 200 level courses

3rd year are mostly 300 level

4th year are mostly 400 level

Avoid Accounting and Finance in the same semester.

I didn't find Marketing 317 that hard, it was just a lot of work.

Make sure you throw in at least one easy course in each semester, like HROD or MGIS. That way you can slack on that a bit and focus on the accounting or finance course a bit more.

Crap, I took Accounting when it was two separate courses, 321 and 323

    How times have changed.

    ^ uhhh

accounting is still two seperate courses

    317(321) and 323...

    financial and managerial

317/321 is required... but i don't think you need 323.

as I recall, you aren't even ALLOWED to take FNCE317 and MKTG317 together.

my suggestion is that if you aren't a FNCE major, then take FNCE with as least amount of classes as possible if you want a good mark

    ---

Take ACCT, MGIS together is fine.
    OPMA isn't too tough.
    HROD is a breeze

Finance, although still hard has changed drastically now from when I took it. There is no more 200 page pre class book that you have to read and do 2 weeks before the class even starts, that is all done in class now and a huge hard part (i think capital budgeting or something) is taken out of 317 all together, so Fnce is not as hard as it used to be now. Acct didn't change much from what I gather (friend is a TA)

Now that I am finished and graduating, I can say that it was ALL EASY haha, no it wasn't but I can say that since i endured the pain haha

I just finished FNCE 317 last semister and still had to do that nasty pre-course work, as for capital budgeting, its still there, but the harder 1/2 of it was removed. so in short.. Fnce is easier.. but still a headache to get through.. oh.. watch out for that final.. it screwed me over pretty good

Back when I was in school (and when Ricker was assoc. dean), she made it very clear that we weren't to take both at the same time or we would be having a conversation with her

The final sorta screwed me over too! I had to randomly fill in 10 questions even after Hedges said to stop writing and put your pencils down. Still got an 80 though on it =P
