I'd say Garmin, Not Tomtom
I know several people who have had both and they all prefer the Garmin for it's maps.

Anything Garmin offers is the best.
Try updating your maps first?

what's the use of all the GPS?? what do you guys normally use it for? do you drive out of town alot?
I like my tomtom, haven't owned anyother brand though. It has a pretty good map in the states for points of interests like malls and places to eat. I do home appraisals so I use it like 5 times a day 5 day a weeks.
Garmin nuvi 250 , 279.00 at future shop .Works great the newer ones are better but a lot more money. Garmin have the best maps in North America.
I've used a Magellan roadmate and I'm not a huge fan of it for the user interface. Its not the easiest to use. Prefer my laptop using streets and trips with a gps receiver, that can be a pain because its too clumsy and has to sit on the passenger seat.
Garmin has the best mapping in the industry.
Period.

Phhht. Yeah, try using one in Lake Charles, LA. I almost thrrew the f#$%ing thing out the window more than once. It let me to a farmers field 4 times, and lead me in the wrong direction to various restaurants several more than that. One specific restaurant, it gave me 4 addresses for, I followed 3 of them, all wrong, when I got to the 4th (real) place, I asked how long they'd been there, and they said they hadn't moved for 20 years.

i got tomtom and route66 on my nokia 62, i have also tried mio from staples. TomTom is the best.
Garmin nuvi 660. Mapping is well above average, with the up to date 2008 map. MP3 playback with an SD card, which is cool. Bluetooth allows you to route your phone thru the device so you can make it a handsfree phone adapter. The one downside is that the FM transmitter sucks - my WRX has the FM receiver antenna in the rear window, and with the GPS mounted on the front windshield with a suction cup mount, the reception is quite poor. Connecting it to the line-in jack on the stereo with a patch cord makes it much better.
Oh, ok, so I assume that you went back and tried those directions with two other gps systems and they were spot on, right?Originally posted by Tik-Tok

Don't base your decisions on one fuck-up with an obscure address, they are the best mapping system, but NONE of them are perfect.
Garmin again.. don't even bother with anything else.
Sounds like lots of ppl likes Garmin ! I had a Magellan roadmate and it took minutes to recaculate the new route if you missed it. what a pain!
Not sure about TomTom, I heard their map is very good but you can maunally update or correct them? But if you don't know how to get there, then how can you correct the map?
