    Default Canadian Justice System FTL

Police are warning the public about a convicted rapist who has walked away from a halfway house.

Shane Jonathan Redgun, 28, is unlawfully at large after leaving a Calgary halfway house between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Redgun was on a statutory release as part of a two-year sentence for sexual assault and assault causing bodily harm.

City police say they are concerned he poses a high risk to reoffend.

I can't believe that they deem this guy a high risk to reoffend and then let him out of jail

There are arguments against long sentences as a form of deterent to crime, but at the end of the day, if someone is a high risk to do something terrible again, just fucking keep him locked up!

I'd rather let a thousand guilty men walk free than chase after them.

Screw keeping them locked up. Execute the fuckers! Streamline the legal system so it becomes cheaper to off the lifers than it does to keep them alive. Take that extra cash that you save on feeding / housing them, and use it to institute some better designed social programs, like taking all the truly mental homeless off the streets, and putting them in an institution, or a halfway house where they can at least have a shot at being productive.

    ^^

Streamline a system to kill people quickly?

Capitol punishment is not an effective deterrant (see United States).
Executing a prisoner costs more than letting them live out their lives in jail.
Not to mention the number of wrongly convicted people who are released after serving 20+ years in jail nowadays.

While it has its arguments, and seems to cost more, I think locking them up for a long time as Antonio mentioned would be the easiest/most cost effective way. Besides, sexual/physical assualt is a serious crime, but not deserving of execution.

The biggest cost on the system probably isnt the extremely fucked up criminals/murderers, its these guys that keep going in and out of the system on smaller things. We should just adopt something like Cali's 3 strikes and your out system.

I think you missed the part where he said streamline the system.

Executing people costs more because it takes 20 bloody years and 14 trials for a guy who walked into a bank and on-camera offed 10 people to exhaust all his "appeals".

It isn't a "deterrant" in Texas now because it takes 20 years to actually happen. Start executing people 2 months after they are found guilty of a "unquestionably did it" murder, in a quick fast/cheap way, and see if it doesn't become a deterant.

Oh, and you may not think rapists deserve to be executed, but I guarantee you if someone raped your wife you'd change your tune right-quick.

course, someone murdered my wife then I guess I'd be up for execution, since I'd have chopped the head off whoever did it.
