    Default Moving truck rental frustrations

So I booked 3 weeks ago for a Uhaul location that is near my home. I called the location to confirm everything was ok and they have no idea what i'm talking about. He looked into it more and said ya I don't have a truck for you, call the 1-800 number. What is the damn point of making a reservation then. I called the 1-800 today and they said they will call me one day before my reservation date and tell me where to go. I felt like telling her where to go.

I thought then screw Uhaul, i'll call Budget. Even worse. Online reservation keeps saying the place is closed during my daytime reservation hours. I call the number and they send me to "truck rentals" in the US who wont help me. So they tell me to call the number I originally called. I called back and they sent me to the US again. Screw them...

With that all said and done is there any alternatives? Unfortunately its for this Sat from South Calgary to Cochrane.

Gah...don't get me started on U-Haul. Unfortunately they're the cheapest around, and despite all the aggravations, I have used them 3 different times, and every single time has been a nightmare.

1- Reserved AND PAID CASH for a truck for such-and-such a date.
I arrived in town to pick up truck only to be told, "sorry we're all out". Found a truck a day later, and an hour and a half's drive away. No compensation

    2. Rented a one way truck from BC to Saskatchewan, only to have it break down multiple times on the trip. No help from U-Haul.

    3. Paid cash deposit for a truck rental (no credit card). Picked up truck, they phoned 30 minutes later asking why I haven't returned it yet..."you're late".
    "Uhhh....I just picked it up"
"Oh...okay, sorry". When I returned the truck, I'm waiting for the change from my $300 cash deposit. "Okay sir, you owe us $171 dollars".
    "No...you owe ME $129. I paid cash"
"We have no record of that". I pull out the yard-long receipt which has faded ink, and he can't read it...."I don't see a cash deposit here". I had to wait for two hours while they searched back ATM records.

Could try Discount, Penske, or Driving Force. There might be one or two others that I'm forgetting.

I think I found someone. A guy in the condo complex we are leaving does delivery on the side. He said he can get a truck. So hopefully it pans out and I dont have to deal with UHaul.

I opened up this thread, read the first post, and my first thought was the exact same video clip that C_Dave45 posted.

Fuck me, I'm going to make an early bird dinner reservation now.

Uhaul trucks are sketchy as hell, I have driven discount cube vans rental before and they were a lot better.

Yup...I've used these guys on many occasions. Never had a problem with them.

LOL..good suggestion. BTW check out my southern alberta group for V8 domestic enthusiasts on beyond

On a side note, U Haul always tries to up sell moving blankets and dollies. Last time I used them I declined and they were still in the truck from the previous users. Same thing happened to my brother. I love unmotivated employees

I've personally used Penske Truck rentals and have had no issues. They were great with the reservation and resolving stuff that happened.

    These guys to be exact:

    http://www.pensketruckrental.com/loc...algary/231510/

I rented a 24 foot unit with the hydraulic lift in the back. Used it all night then for the last block of boxes we were moving off the truck, the hydraulic lift broke. We finished regardless but it wasn't a bid deal to us because all that remained were the standard moving boxes.

Anyway, brought the truck back the next day, let them know. They gave me a significant discount for my "inconvenience". Totally would use them again.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Avis in Calgary has five or six cube vans. Don't bother trying online or the 1-800 numbers, call directly to the north hill location.

Problem with this is people take them a few days before the end of the month and just keep them until after their move. Almost zero chance of getting one Saturday morning on the last weekend of the month.
